With a dark beer as our first and flagship brand, Black Butte defined Deschutes as a radical player. A slight hop bitterness up front enhances the distinctive chocolate and roasted finish. Itís prized for its creamy mouthfeel and intense complex flavors.

Sweet aroma of coffee and chocolate notes. Black color with amber edges. Tan frothy head upon the pour. Very fresh taste. Probably made from water of the gods. Medium-sweet taste that has the slightest tinge of bitter in the finish. Medium body with a thin texture. Not a bit of carbonation. This is a fantastic porter at an affordable price. High quality!!! Definitely recommended!

12 Oz. Bottle poured into a chilled glass. Slight hoppy aroma with definite chocolate background. Pours dark brown with a nice tan head. Lightly sweet taste and again, you can sense the chocolate in the background. Creamy texture with a great follow through. Love this beer!

One of my go to classics at the Red Lion in Vail. Soft spot in my heart as the wife worked there. Pours opaque dark brown, reasonable khaki head. Roasted malts, chocolate with subtle sweetness. Classic beer ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

355ml bottle. Pours an opaque black, with a medium light beige head, which lasts well and leaves good lacing. Dark chocolate and latte are the dominant aromas, with herbal and floral hops notes in the mix also. Quite strong floral and fruity hops up front give way to dark berry notes and chocolate in the mid-palate. Mild coffee and a pleasantly savoury flavour make up the finish. A good porter from a consistently good brewery.

Aroma is dark fruits, roasted coffee and chocolate, cherry, and a bit of booze. Appearance is a deep, dark brown with a decent sized brown head that dissipates quickly, leaving little lacing. Good hop character with lightly roasted chocolate and coffee, as well as a bit of toffee and molasses. Nothing too heavy. Remarkably well balanced and smooth. A bit of bready, sweet caramel to finish it off. Medium bodied. Goes down pretty easy. Overall a great example of a porter. Extremely well balanced with a nice bunch of flavors.

Bottle. Dark rich roast flavor with a little hop bitterness. Very smooth with easy-going aftertaste. A very complex and rich brew that is great by itself or paired with food (think comfort food like Mac and Cheese!)

Pours a beautiful dark brown color with a tight khaki head. Aromas and flavors of chocolate, coffee, nuts and a hint of citrus from the hops. Body was a bit thin but overall this is a great example of what a porter should be.

Dark and opaque. Light, but pleasant and somewhat sweet aroma. Refreshing and not too heavy or thick. Would drink again.

Black Butte Porter is a dark brown opaque liquid with light brown head of small bubbles. Nose is sweet with caramelized roasted malt. Taste is a medium rich roasted malt and caramalized brown sugar mix with a nice coffeeish bitters going on. body is smooth and happy. a good porter.

Bottle, shared by me... in my dining room... just now.
Pours a very very dark reddish brown with a good head and decent lacing on the glass.

The aroma is cocoa and raw coffee beans. Itís lightly sweet smelling with some mild fruity hop character.

The flavor is really well balanced, not especially sweet at all but mildly so with a fairly bitter roasty character.Itís got a lot of chocolate and coffee notes along with a pretty nicely defined "c" hop flavor.

Easily something I could drink a whole lot of no doubt.
