COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With a dark beer as our first and flagship brand, Black Butte defined Deschutes as a radical player. A slight hop bitterness up front enhances the distinctive chocolate and roasted finish. It’s prized for its creamy mouthfeel and intense complex flavors.

Almost no aroma from bottle. Pours thinnish dark brown to black, touch of orange. Light nuts, medium malt balance. Substantial unheavy mouthfeel. Clean finish. Quaffable and satisfying, but doesn’t leave much of a signature memory sip to sip.

Dark brown color with tan head. Aroma has sweet, toasted, dark malts and brown sugar. Taste starts also sweet and sugary with some roasted malts and a bit of yeast character in the middle. Finish is slightly bitter and roasty but overall still a balanced beer. Medium to light body with medium carbonation. Overall it’s a well made porter but very classic and kind of boring.

I'm not a fan of the hoppiness in this beer, it's low enough alcohol that it's not warranted. I find it to be too astringent for my tastes in a porter. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

5.2%ABV. Porter. Tapped out black brown. 38şSRM. Nose has sweet wine-like aromas with stone fruit, grapes and a nice Pinot-like nose. Black honey and honeyed dates in the nose. Mouthfeel is soupy with nice carbonation. Palate actually has a lot of sweet toasty malty flavors of Graham cracker, biscuits, Cheerios, honeyed dates. Mid-palate has sour and slightly phenolic flavors with a slightly spicy palate. The tail end of this palate has more sweet with plums, sweet prunes, honey dates and ripe persimmons. No Hops. finish is sweet and dry. Good porter, just at this tasting, not really my thing.

I do not wax on poetically about beer but I do know the quality of a beer once tasted. This review is not about my tastes but reinforces the numbers, which are arbitrary.

One of the ones that started it all for me. Absolutely love this one. Draught today, a dark dark brown with some amber hues in the direct light. Off white head with perfect lacing. Vanilla, chocolate, coffee. Incredibly creamy and drinkable, with a lasting finish of all of the above. An absolute classic!

Przepyszne piwo!🍺
