COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With a dark beer as our first and flagship brand, Black Butte defined Deschutes as a radical player. A slight hop bitterness up front enhances the distinctive chocolate and roasted finish. It’s prized for its creamy mouthfeel and intense complex flavors.

A lesson in the underestimation of beer dating. Gift from a friend in 2006. Bottle dated best by 02/20/07. Stored cold since. Drinks much the same as many of the past descriptions. Head fizzed audibly, almost seltzer-like, died to thin rim lacing in 20 seconds, yet zippy, fine bubble in each lovely sip. Coffee, cocoa, pipe tobacco on nose. Creamy and lively texture. "Sweet & dry" chocolate, root (sassafras et al), and black tea. A tribute to the integrity of this beer. Perfect on a raw October night in CT. Thanks Zep!

11/26/14. Bottle. Poured w a two finger mocha head. Nice toasty nose with a hint of vanilla. Strong but balanced roast and chocolate notes. Sessiony mouth that matches the light alcohol. Very drinkable porter. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This is one of the most consistent Porters for me. Nothing fancy, just a great beer. Love the balance. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Very dark brown with two fingers of lively white head. Aroma is one of malts and dark grain with some chocolate. Taste is lit of hops up front, with chocolate and roasty notes slight smoky back end mixed with some hops. Superb porter.

Pleasantly surprised to find this at the grocery store. I hope they keep this mild porter.

Bottle, as pictured. Can’t believe I’ve never rated this before. I’ve had it in the past. Dark black pour. Tannish head. Caramel and chocolate flavors. Definitely a roasty flavor. Very nice.
