COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With a dark beer as our first and flagship brand, Black Butte defined Deschutes as a radical player. A slight hop bitterness up front enhances the distinctive chocolate and roasted finish. It’s prized for its creamy mouthfeel and intense complex flavors.

Bottle shared with me by Dan. THANKS! Snifter pour was black with an off-white one finger head. Aroma of roasted malts, cocoa, dry nibs, dark nuts, and vanilla. The taste was similar with the roasted malts most dominant and then a hint of dark chocolate. Not sweet at all. Relatively dry finish. Some coffee. Texture was medium for a porter. Modest carbonation. But overall it was a good porter.

Spare head, off-white color. Quite dark brown beer. Aroma is almost all malt; some chocolate especially on the finish. Hops are very light. Body is on the light side for a porter. Texture is somewhat creamy. Finish is only average in length and intensity.

Poured from 12oz bottle into tulip. 3 Finger head, moderately slow to dissipate. Appearance is extremely dark brown almost black. Hold it up to the light and it has almost a reddish appearance. Aroma is slightly hoppy. Faint hints of roasted malt, maybe a touch of toffee and a hint of coffee . Tastes like a porter, a simply well made porter. Nothing more, nothing less. Easy drinker. Enjoyable.

Bottle: clear, dark brown, light to medium head and very good lace. The aroma is roasted, slightly burnt, chocolate but clean and fresh. The palate is dry not ready sour and moderately bitter. It fresh although the flavor is slightly burnt and ash like. The is a creamy feel and it has high carbonation.

Bottle from Systembolaget. Dark brown. Tiny, light brown head. Smooth, velvet body. A bit thin. Soft carbonation. Roasted malt and some smoke nose. Chocolate, roasted malt, dried fruit and some caramel flavour. Ending is a tiny bit dry. Light sweet and bitterness.

Heh heh... Butte.... I once had a beer called the entire Butte... It was bad... But despite what the name implies, black Butte is delicious! Very good porter! Nice and roasty! Just like I like Em! This rating has gone to a weird place so I will stop... I do like this beer though!

Pour from 12 oz bottle to a shaker. Decent head that settles to nice lacing. Can really smell the chocolate in this more than in the taste. Bitterness up front with a nice smooth finish. Very nice porter

12oz bottle pours with a dark brown mahogany body that supports a thin dark tan head. The mild aroma offers up bits of dark roasted malts, chocolate and malt balls. The taste starts with lightly roasted malts, lightly roasted earthy coffee and then thin slivers of chocolate. Behind those notes the malts and a bit of nuttiness have an astringent edge to them. Classic Porter. The chocolate grows as more ounces are consumed.
