3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
UPDATED: MAR 2, 2013 Black pour from bottle with off white head. Smells of smoked malt and noble hop. Taste is the same, with and underlying flavor of chocolate and caramel. Mouthfeel is a bit lacking. Overall a disappointment, but my first beer from Deschutes.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle. Pours dark brown with tall, short-lived beige head. Aroma is dark chocolate and coffee. Medium-high carbonation and thin body. Flavor follows aroma with a slight sour and bitter aftertaste. Decent, enjoyable beer overall. However, porter is one of my favorite styles, so there are others I’d go to before coming back to this one.

Nice and light chocolate and barley aroma. Deep black brown color and translucent. A little bitter and tiny bit claggy in palate. Some woody and cocoa nibs. Tap

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
355mL bottle from Slowbeer. BB 12/07/15
Deep near-black ruby body, holds a dense beige head.
Nice roast nose - charred nuts, dark chocolate, charcoal, brown toffee, hints of dark fruit esters & earthy hop.
Smooth body, creamy carbonation, chewy sort of malt texture is a pleasure.
Rich toffee sweetness acts as a spine for delicious roast notes of dark chocolate, toast, nuts, charred wood, licorice, with hints of dried leafy hops & plummy esters. Moderate bitterness, smooth finish.
Very good Porter indeed!

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours black with a thin brown head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate and a little smokey. Not much flavor for a porter. Thin body and not very bitter in the finish. Ok

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Way too thin to be considered a quality porter. Not enough coffee...chocolate....etc. Drinkable....that is it.

2.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
BB 15/12/15. Poured a semi-opaque dark brown/nearly black colour with a one-finger tan coloured dense foam head that retained very well and laced OK. Aroma nicely of dark chocolate, coffee with a subtly nice sweetness. Taste of chocolate, roasted coffee, a slight sweetness and with low but lingering bitterness. Light to medium body, a bit thinner than I was expecting for a porter. Smooth, sweet with a light lingering bitterness. Quite nice.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 ounce bottle into pint glass, best before 2/27/2016. Pours fairly crystal clear dark brown color with a 2 finger dense and rocky khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice dense soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big milk chocolate, cocoa, light coffee, caramel, toffee, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, light nuttiness, light plum/apple, herbal, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Fantastic aromas with great complexity and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, earthy hops, and light yeast ester notes; with great strength. Taste of milk chocolate, cocoa, light coffee, caramel, toffee, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, light nuttiness, light plum/apple, herbal, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toffee, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, herbal, and yeast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, earthy hops, and light fruity yeast flavors; with a great roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/silky, and lightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish as expected of 5.2%. Overall this is a fantastic English porter style. All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, earthy hops, and light fruity yeast flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. A highly enjoyable offering

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle at the American craft beer stall at the 2015 Great British Beer Festival, London. Poured very dark brown with a tan colour head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate and roasted malts. Medium sweetness and bitterness, texture is creamy though a little too high in carbonation. Finish of roasted bitterness. Finisher to a great day at GBBF.
