COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With a dark beer as our first and flagship brand, Black Butte defined Deschutes as a radical player. A slight hop bitterness up front enhances the distinctive chocolate and roasted finish. It’s prized for its creamy mouthfeel and intense complex flavors.

On tap, pours dark brown with a slight redness with a light tan head with hardly any lacing. Smells of chocolate, coffee, and roasted malt. Tasted the same as it smells. Mouthfeel is thick and creamy. This was the only porter I drank back before I knew more about beer. I’d have to say its still one of my favorites. The chocolate and roasted flavors In this beer are amazing.

Poured from 22 oz. bomber into pint glass. Served at 50 degrees. Appearance - dark brown with off-white head that dissipates quickly. Nice lacing. Aroma - dark malt, chocolate, and hoppy bitterness. Taste - great balance between malt and hops. A well crafted brew. Mouthfeel - medium body with lively carbonation. Overall - a great porter, I will seek this one out again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Poured a dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma was roasted malt and perhaps a little chocolate. The flavor followed with a touch of coffee in there. This was very good.

12 oz bottle. Dark brown with a tan head. Nose is coffee bean, chocolate and brown sugar. Medium body with foamy carb and a fluffy mouthfeel; too many bubbles. Pretty tasty with coffee, chocolate and molasses but lacking some richness. Finishes with light smoke and hints of citrus peel.

12 oz bottle from Supermarket Liquors. Deep dark brown appearance with a big tan head that slowly dissipates and laces the glass. Malty roasted aroma with dark chocolate, coffee and light caramel. Similar flavor with mild dark fruits and earthy bitter hops. Medium body, a litlte thin with a creamy feel and a smooth roasted finish. Nice sessionable porter.

Smells dark and chocolaty. Pours deep brown with ruby accents with a foamy tan head. Taste hits the right notes between sweet and bitter. Goes down smooth with a sweet aftertaste.

A well-made porter. Extra points for being widely available. Not as good as Samuel Smith’s porter, but almost. They claim to have another one of those "proprietary" strains of yeast. Everyone has a gimmick.

Very nice porter. Roasted coffee in aroma. Taste is coffee plus incredible roastiness. Mouthfeel is definitely porter all the way -- thin and not a stout, even if the taste is stout leaning. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
