COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With a dark beer as our first and flagship brand, Black Butte defined Deschutes as a radical player. A slight hop bitterness up front enhances the distinctive chocolate and roasted finish. It’s prized for its creamy mouthfeel and intense complex flavors.

Wow...was shocked with this one, I was expecting the somewhat bitter after taste. Instead this brew was one if the best, if not top of the list, dark beers I’ve ever had! Not much more to say, I’d rather pour another one!!!

Pours a deep, chocolate brown, almost black. Medium tan head with moderate lacing. Aroma is a pleasant roasty malt. Sweet with just a hint of bitterness for a well balanced taste. Creamy and full mouthfeel. Lightly bitter finish. Overall, a great porter. Looks beautiful, drinks easy, and feels great.

Bottle. Typical dark porter appearance. Roasted coffee and nutty flavour. Full bodied with sweet finish.

Visual: Pours dark cola brown with barely any head, a thin layer of micro retention, lots of medium-speed streams. Nose: roast caramel malts. (lvl-6)-pungency Attack: crisp, incoming roast Mid-palate: (lvl-4)-sweetness, micro fizzy, (MAIN) light roast coffee, molasses, malt, chocolate Finish: burpy, light roast malt exhale, malty finish. Summary: The difference between a porter and a stout? This exemplifies it for me right here. Crisp and lighter bodied without the heaviness, cleaner malt flavours, and straighter light roast delivery with a soft finish. Other online sources may tell you otherwise, but this distinction rings true for me at least.

Draught at the 33 Taps, Hollywood, CA. Black colour with a red hue and small light tan head. Sweet berry hops, marmalade, sweetness, roasted malt and mild bitterness in the aroma. The flavour is roasted malt, oatmeal, sweetness, mild hops, mild bitterness and mild chocolate. Slightly thin but tasty. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft - Black with a good white head of foam on the top, nice tight bubbles. Dry coffee notes. Just a regular porter, no distinguishing flavors or hints on this one. I didn’t get any bitterness from hops on either.

UPDATED: MAY 24, 2015 12 oz bottle. Deep brown, near black with a sand-colored head. Roasty, chocolate aroma, earth, grass. Creamed coffee, chocolate, woody, earthy. Not getting much of the supposed hops. Silky, thin finish.

12 oz pour from refrigerated bottle into tulip glass. Pours dark brown/black and opaque with a quickly-dissipating one-finger tan head. Nose is roasty malts, some chocolate, and vanilla. Maybe a little nuttiness. Medium bodied. A bit thin for my taste. A little dry. Taste is malts, weak chocolate, walnut, and a little coffee. A hint of vanilla. Not sweet at all. A solid porter.

12 oz bottle pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of coffee and roasted malts. Taste is creamy, smooth and sweet espresso like malts with hints of vanilla and oak. Slightly bitter. Nice porter.

The quintessential porter, with just enough bitterness to help balance the roasted malt notes, semi-creamy head, and cocoa sweetness. Low enough ABV (5.2%) to drink multiples. It has many characteristics of a stout, but isn’t as chewy/thick, leaving you with that full feeling. Let it warm up a bit to thoroughly enjoy. Good stuff.

davidezdonz (34) - , HONG KONG - APR 21, 2015
This 12oz bottle was dated best by 3rd July 2015 and was poured into a pint glass. It poured a really dark brown with a half finger tan head that dissipates quickly leaving a generous amount of lacing. Aromas were lightly of espresso coffee with some chocolate and maybe a bit of dark fruits like prunes. Would have preferred a stronger smell. As for tastes, there was immediate dark bitter chocolate with roasty malts and a slight herbal bitter ending. It was medium bodied, medium carbonation and somewhat creamy. Overall this was a nice porter that I would buy again… if only it were that easy in Hong Kong.
