COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With a dark beer as our first and flagship brand, Black Butte defined Deschutes as a radical player. A slight hop bitterness up front enhances the distinctive chocolate and roasted finish. Itís prized for its creamy mouthfeel and intense complex flavors.

UPDATED: MAY 5, 2013 Almost black with some brown light shining thru. Thin foamy head with not much lacing. Smells faintly chocolatey with a malty air. Finishes extremely smooth with notes of chocolate and coffee. Solid.

Pours a dark brown with a small tan head. Aromas of dark chocolate, toast, roasted coffee. Taste is sweet at first but finished bitter, nearly cleaned itself up. Medium body and medium carb. Definitely a favorite as far as standard porters go.

It pours a dark brown with a thick creamy tan head. The head fades slowly, leaving ok lace. Taste is of coffee with semi-sweet chocolate, molasses in the background and toasted malts. Great beer

Bottle. Pours dark brown. Nice size creamy tan head. Aroma of coffee and chocolate. Flavor of the same. Light palate. This is lighter then my ideal porter would be, but still solid. Very drinkable. My first from this brewery. Possibly they just started distributing to Michigan or at least my area. Based on this one I will definitely try more from Deschutes.

Poured from a bottle. Part of a blind taste test. No discernable taste. Very weak Porter, surprised at the high ratings.

A classic porter from Deschutes - they make some excellent beers but this is their standard right here. Has the familiar roasted malt and chocolate notes that you are expecting, but backed up with an acidic kick and hop notes that provide more depth to this than your average porter.

I really like the aroma and taste, but itís a bit light on the palate for a porter - call it a sessionable porter. The usual dark chocolate, coffee and roasted grain on the aroma and taste and dark brown/black color, with a bit of a bigger head than some porters. Overall, very, very, good.

Poured from a 20 fluid ounce bottle. Pours a very dark brown with a good amount of off white head. Aromas of burnt malt, chocolate and coffee. To my surprise, I donít find it as heavy as I would expect. There is a mild refreshing feeling that I would expect from a light beer. Leaves a smoky taste behind.

12 oz. bottle from BevMo. Pours a deep brown with a medium brown head. Aromas of chocolate and light coffee with a hint of smoke. Taste is the same. Very nice mouth feel with a clean slightly smokey finish. Super flavorful for the low ABV. Tasty, refreshing and drinkable.
