COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With a dark beer as our first and flagship brand, Black Butte defined Deschutes as a radical player. A slight hop bitterness up front enhances the distinctive chocolate and roasted finish. It’s prized for its creamy mouthfeel and intense complex flavors.

Pours black with an off white head, burnt chocolate and malt aroma, caramel and toast, dark rich malt, creamy medium heavy body, chocolate on the finish. Fantastic Porter.

Has a nice roast malt smoke flavor. Seemed a bit thin, has a bit of a roast aroma, pretty standard good porter.

The black hazy beer with huge tan head smells nice of roased notes and a little hop. The beer is medium bodied at best, I would even say a bit watery, with nice bitterness. For me the biggest issue is the carbonation. So much that it takes away from the creamy mouthfeel and becomes watery.

0.355 bottle. Black, impenetrable color and a big, thick, cream-colored head which leaves not a bad lacing. Strong notes of toasted malts on the nose, coffee, a touch of licorice and dark bread; overall medium sweet. Taste is malty as well but this time with a lot of roast and smoke; again medium sweet with a tinge of bitterness. Medium body, a bit creamy texture though hinting towards slick, carbonation is soft. Finish is sweeter than the rest and introduces a fleeting sour tone. Overall the beer is really good and the only thing preventing me from giving it a higher mark is slight wateriness which is unwelcome in porters.

Good malt backbone with touches of chocolate. Little carb, the brew is not totally opaque. Super subtle bitterness that rounds out the palate with a hint of coffee. Very drinkable and very...true to the style?

Toasted malt up front. Slightly bitter finish. Caramel aroma. Hands down the best Porter I've tasted. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a black color with a tan head. Aroma has plenty of chocolate with some molasses, roasted malts, and a hint of coffee. Flavor is also full of chocolate with the roasted malts and coffee. Slight bitterness on the finish as well.

Bottle 12 ounches. Vlack with a dark beige head. In the aroma you’ll find hints of liquorice, coffee and very dark chocolate. Very pleasant taste which match the aroma perfectly. Long finish. Very nice beer.

Draft pour at Kirby ’s opaque black thin tan head. Nose light roast, chocolate, sweet malt. Taste sweet malt up front, light roast, mild floral character. Sweet persists throughout. Minimal light roast finish.

Pours dark Brown, almost no light through, slight, thin khaki head, thin lacing. Aroma roast, caramel, slight chocolate, coffee and earthy hops. Taste big roast, black malt, cracker, caramel, earthy hops and chocolate and coffee in the background. Medium body, slightly higher carbonation, very slight roast astringency, dry finish. Overall very good beer, excellent representation of style, very tasty, complex and balanced.
