COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With a dark beer as our first and flagship brand, Black Butte defined Deschutes as a radical player. A slight hop bitterness up front enhances the distinctive chocolate and roasted finish. It’s prized for its creamy mouthfeel and intense complex flavors.

Pours a dark brown with a medium tan head that leaves good lacing. Nose is of roasted nuts and coffee. Taste is not an ounce sweet with some nice roasted and chocolatey notes. Some lactose-like sweet afterthought and more nuts. Body is medium and carbonation moderately high. Overall a fine porter.

Black color and no light comes through brew. Low in sweetness...but light on flavor compared to my favorite porters.

Aroma. Smokey, malt, sour something. Look...dark black, small head. Taste. Some wang. Chicory. Feel. Low carbonation.

12oz bottle. Translucent edged deep brown-amber body. Steady, lacy beige head. A pretty classic US Porter. Clean and well executed. On the fuller side of medium bodied, very drinkable. Smooth roasty chocolate tones. A lot of Porters are more exciting than this, but this is straight down the middle, solid.

Bottle: Deep brown body, not quite jet black with a quick fading khaki foam that settles to a small film & collar. Aroma of light coffee beans, some chocolate malt, a bit of creamy sweetness, & a faint touch of roast. More dark chocolate & roasted malt in the flavor with a small undercurrent of residual sweetness for balance. A touch of coffee beans & some very faint black licorice. Thin body, washy mouth feel.

One of my first porters I ever drank and now my fall back beer. If nothing else looks good I get it.

On tap at Prohibition Taproom.
Appearance: Almost opaque garnet body with a creamy tan head.
Aroma: Milk chocolate, roasted malts and a hint of smoke. Mild and pleasant.
Taste: Well balanced with chocolate, roast, and hints of smoke on the finish.
Palate: Medium bodied, moderately carbonated.
Overall: Great porter, one of the best I’ve ever had. Well balanced with good flavor.

Pours near opague dark coffee brown, with ample pillowy cappuccino head. Aromas of roasted malt, with a subtle sweet-sour touch. Flavor starts lightly sweet then builds to a darker deeper drier roast flavor... not quite coffee, almost smokey. I like how the flavor blooms. Palate is lightly creamy with cleansing dry finish. This is very nice.
