With a dark beer as our first and flagship brand, Black Butte defined Deschutes as a radical player. A slight hop bitterness up front enhances the distinctive chocolate and roasted finish. It’s prized for its creamy mouthfeel and intense complex flavors.

My favorite beer this side of the Mississippi. Porters and stouts are my favorite and of those this is my favorite porter. Just enough bitterness.

Bottle - Dark raisin, dark malts and a touch of molasses. Deep brown with a light brown head. Toasty, touch of spice and a nice dark sugary malt. Nice.

I'm not a fan of the hoppiness in this beer, it's low enough alcohol that it's not warranted. I find it to be too astringent for my tastes in a porter. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

5.2%ABV. Porter. Tapped out black brown. 38şSRM. Nose has sweet wine-like aromas with stone fruit, grapes and a nice Pinot-like nose. Black honey and honeyed dates in the nose. Mouthfeel is soupy with nice carbonation. Palate actually has a lot of sweet toasty malty flavors of Graham cracker, biscuits, Cheerios, honeyed dates. Mid-palate has sour and slightly phenolic flavors with a slightly spicy palate. The tail end of this palate has more sweet with plums, sweet prunes, honey dates and ripe persimmons. No Hops. finish is sweet and dry. Good porter, just at this tasting, not really my thing.

I do not wax on poetically about beer but I do know the quality of a beer once tasted. This review is not about my tastes but reinforces the numbers, which are arbitrary.

One of the ones that started it all for me. Absolutely love this one. Draught today, a dark dark brown with some amber hues in the direct light. Off white head with perfect lacing. Vanilla, chocolate, coffee. Incredibly creamy and drinkable, with a lasting finish of all of the above. An absolute classic!

Przepyszne piwo!🍺

355 ml bottle bought at YATA in MOKO, Mong Kok.

Looks: Clear deep blackish brown colour with faint residual yeast sediments; One quarter finger head with soapy beige foam which fades in 40 seconds; Very good sticky lacing with zero carbonation.

Aroma: Fragrant and sweet full dark malt, with strong Bockish roastyness, strong red fruits, light dark fruits, caramel, toffee, chocolates, light coffee, cream, sugar, yeast, lemon and light grass.

Taste: Medium sweet full dark malt, with quite strong roastyness, tartness, banana / fruity ester, floral, caramel, light chocolates, light coffee, strong molasses, toast, yeast, lemon, moderate bitter hops and quite sharp grass.

Body: Medium body. Thin, very slick and creamy palate.

Mouth Feel: Rich Bockish maltyness in a wheat-thinned background, thickness remains, creamy and smooth. Banana / estery taste is very notable, I don’t think it’s off and actually matches well with the light chocolates and coffees here. Nice moderate caramel sweetness. Moderate lemon to round. Very subtle and nice!

Hoppiness: lemon and light grass in nose. Floral, lemon and sharp grass in taste. Bitterness is moderate for a lasting, close to mid-astringent sweet malty finish.

After Taste: Fairly dry; Creamy, fruity and sweet bitter to mouth.

Comments: Wow, this Porter is spot-on: good looks and creamy, rich Bock-ike maltyness, subtle chocolate and coffee, pleasant sweetness and strong lemony hoppinesess. Refreshing yet fulfilling, a nice one and definitely worth buying!

Aroma vanilla, cocoa, coffee. Taste is rich heavy maple syrup , bourbon barrel heavy. One year after wait until date. Very sharp and dry. Sipper for sure. Not refined.
