With a dark beer as our first and flagship brand, Black Butte defined Deschutes as a radical player. A slight hop bitterness up front enhances the distinctive chocolate and roasted finish. It’s prized for its creamy mouthfeel and intense complex flavors.

Best porter in my opinion. Besides of course the anniversary editions... the 25 is bomb. Bout to pour one!

bottle. Near black with one finger head. Rich malty porter with quite a bit of chocolate flavor. Very smooth, yet flavorful. Excellent porter.

On draft at Philadelphia airport. Deep brown with some reddish brown hues around the glass. Off white to tan head, dissipates quickly possibly due to the fact that this is poured ice cold, had to wait a few minutes for it to warm up to allow the aroma to open up a bit. Aroma is nice freshly roasted coffee, some milk chocolate, slight vanilla. Full thick mouthfeel with the expected taste of roasted beans, chocolate, some biscuit malt.

Nice roasted chocolate flavor. Slightly sweet. Smooth feel on the tongue. One of my favorite porters.

Best by date of 08.25.14. Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a tumbler on 06.13.14. A: 1 finger tan head. Opaque black with some red on the sides and bottom. S: Chocolate malt. Slight coffee and woodiness. T: Chocolate and roastiness dominate. Woodiness is subtle. M: Creamy and bubbly. O: This is one of the best porters that I’ve had. It leans towards a dessert, but it is not overwhelmingly sweet. The roastiness is not as strong or overdone as it is in others. It’s there just enough to balance the sweetness.

355 ml bottle into a pint glass. Pours black, with a small tan head that quickly fades. Nose is cocoa and coffee. Taste is bittersweet chocolate and coffee. Very smooth, with a creamy mouth feel. Very, very good porter.

Corpo medio-pieno, e discreta carbonazione.

Black as night, with rapidly recessed tan head. Smells of roasted chocolate, coffee and sweet cereal. Taste is light sweetness with a following bitter that is brief. Gives me a medium body with a thin texture. Good drinking porter.

i see not a thing wrong with this beer. nose: that date and walnut cereal i cant remember the name of. toasted grains. very vibrant. palate: perfectly balanced. the roastiness/sweetness/hops are not overwhelming and what you’re left with is a gorgeous dance of date/bran maltiness, tannin, sharpness from the carbonation, milk chocolate/mocha, and a balanckng vegetal/nutty quality. i say yes...you say no! you say stop, but i say go, go GO!

A pretty nice porter. Smooth and sweet, roasted, malty. A somewhat dry finish.
