With a dark beer as our first and flagship brand, Black Butte defined Deschutes as a radical player. A slight hop bitterness up front enhances the distinctive chocolate and roasted finish. It’s prized for its creamy mouthfeel and intense complex flavors.

Amazing flavors without too forceful of a roast aftertaste. Only knock is that the carbonation might be slightly too much for my taste.

The black hazy beer with huge tan head smells nice of roased notes and a little hop. The beer is medium bodied at best, I would even say a bit watery, with nice bitterness. For me the biggest issue is the carbonation. So much that it takes away from the creamy mouthfeel and becomes watery.

Pours a black color with a tan head. Aroma has plenty of chocolate with some molasses, roasted malts, and a hint of coffee. Flavor is also full of chocolate with the roasted malts and coffee. Slight bitterness on the finish as well.

Good malt backbone with touches of chocolate. Little carb, the brew is not totally opaque. Super subtle bitterness that rounds out the palate with a hint of coffee. Very drinkable and very...true to the style?

Toasted malt up front. Slightly bitter finish. Caramel aroma. Hands down the best Porter I've tasted. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle 12 ounches. Vlack with a dark beige head. In the aroma you’ll find hints of liquorice, coffee and very dark chocolate. Very pleasant taste which match the aroma perfectly. Long finish. Very nice beer.

Draft pour at Kirby ’s opaque black thin tan head. Nose light roast, chocolate, sweet malt. Taste sweet malt up front, light roast, mild floral character. Sweet persists throughout. Minimal light roast finish.

33 cl bottle, Calgary, AB, Canada. Deep brown, burnt vanilla caramel aroma. Some coco and prune. Sweeter than anticipated, very smooth, a little light at the end with a long herbal hoppiness.

A- Pours a deep brownish hue with a creamy, 2 finger, light brown head that sticks around for a long time. S- Very creamy, lightly sweet with some roasted malt on the back end. T- Light, creamy sweetness, lots of roasted malt. M- Thin with medium carbonation. D- I would have enjoyed this beer a little thicker but it was definitely a good session beer.

Keg at Redbones. Deep ruby brown, thin beige head that dissipates quickly, no lacing. Aroma is chocolate, toffee, caramel, some bubblegum. Very sweet nose but enticing. Flavour is mostly chocolaty sweetness, with a very light touch of coffee and roast. Chocolate type aftertaste, slick and syrupy mouthfeel. Outstanding.
