3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
22 oz. bottle served in a Southern Tier tulip.
A: Pours a blackish color with brown highlights. A light khaki head. Recedes to a thin cap. Some splotchy lace is left down the glass.
S: Oaky with some light roasty malts. C hocolate withe some figs and dark fruit flavors. Light boozy notes.
T: Even more oaky than the nose suggests. Dark chocolate with a some roasted malts and brown sugar sweetness. Raisins and figs. Boozy sweetness on the backend, but not too hot.
M: Medium bodied with a medium carbonation level. Sweet and roasty finish.
O: This was too oaky at this point. Hopefully some time will blend the beer together a little better.

The beer is near black with a beige cap. The aroma brings roast, coffee, pine, light spice, brown sugar. The flavor is good but not great. Medium bodied with a touch of heat in the finish. Pretty good.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a thick, viscous, dirty motor-oil black with a small tan head on top. Fair retention of the foam. Some light sticky globs hang around after each sip. Rich flavorful aromas of chocolate, roasted malts and coffee, bourbon - all enveloped in a sweet scent of fruit. There’s something about these big bold stouts/porters when they mix in fruit character that I really dig.
Amazing feel as this viscous beer wraps up the palate in a wash of velvety goodness. Subtle carbonation, heavy feel. This is a sipper for sure. A wonderful treat to close out the night with. Big flavors of dark fruit - plum, fig, raisin. Sweetness pulls through with notes of vanilla, bourbon, brown sugar. Mild roasted quality helps bring this one around and prevents this from becoming a total sweet bomb.
This was a really great beer, and a reminder why this is one of my most anticipated releases each year. Wasn’t a fan of the XXIII, so this was a pleasant treat. A wonderful marriage of dark fruits and dark chocolate in the form of a fantastic beer.
