Huge roast punch in the face, but settles down and behaves nicely. Alcohol not shy though. Chocolatey and malty, the fruit sweetness lingers. Finishes smooth as smooth can be. An imperial porter in a class by itself.

ON TAP at St. Augustine’s Vancouver. Sweet malty milf, I almost dropped a load hearing I could have this on tap here. Absolute blackest brown with a sad skiff of what might’ve been a good "cum dumpster, fake tan" cap. Aroma of over ripe dark fruit and chocolate, spruce. Taste is similar, but more alcohol forward. Not in a bad way though. As much as this is a sipper, its exactly what you’d expect from it.

22 oz bottle. Dark brown with a smattering of tan bubbles. Nose is fig, caramel, chocolate, dates and vanilla. Rich and silky medium body with a buzz. Taste features that wonderful fig and date combo, the chocolate adds a bitter note to balance the fruit and malt. Slight coffee linger, quite tasty.

Poured from a 22 ounce bomber, thanks Ed. I love this beer, rich chocolate, roasted malts, fruity, woody, coffee, vanilla, bourbon. The finish is fairly dry(considering the abv) making this a nice drinking beer.

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Sample pour of deep dark, thin liquid with a super thin head. Nose is sweet and smooth, caramel and light roasted malt. Flavor is exactly opposite, with sharp warming alcohol, full roasted malt. Lightly sweetened with caramel and toffee. Really a nice transition. Smooth medium body, and quite drinkable, but the alcohol isn’t hidden. Nice...

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
22oz bottle courtesy of dcschiller. Cheers, Dave! Pours a deep porter brown with a tab head. Nose is roast, light chocolate, and big dates and figs. Flavor is slight chocolate with dates and figs, lots of figs, huge figs, and more figs. It's good, but fruity and figgy- more so than most other incarnations of black butte. Light to medium in body and interesting overall.
