COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
XXIV. 24 years after Black Butte Porter’s debut, our potent, layered, imperial tribute returns. As usual, it’s a jazz riff, guided by the brewer’s muse and the lure of exotic ingredients. Artisanal dark chocolate nibs. Daglet dates. Mission figs. It may, possibly, hopefully, be the best edition yet. But, as it should be, you’ll be the judge of that.

650 ml thanks to Ed. Pours a dark black color with a medium beige head. A big roasted nose with dark fruit and oranges. Certainly a balanced big beer with oranges, cocoa, dark fruit, earthy figs, light vanilla. Very good.

65cl, new exclusive American brew Anno 2012, with dates and figs, thx to Secret Santa!, very complex sweet Porter, sweet/roasted and slightly fruity/spicy, not too heavy, balanced, hazy, good head, very good brew, yet very expensive!

Pours thick and black with a big tan head. Nose is vanilla, chocolate, coffee, boozey, wood chips and almonds. Taste is sweet mostly with enough bitter to make the taste extraordinary. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy, body is heavy and finish is long! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Chocolate, caramel, sweet aroma. Can smell a little alcohol. Sweet chocolate, roasted flavor; beneath that is some nice flavor from the dates, and substantial hop flavor.

Hugely complex and harmonious blend of ingredients. Great musty, chocolaty, medium dry flavor with dark fruit notes.

Black with good (barrel-aged), creamy brown head / Rich, complex nose of whiskey barrel, chocolate, dark fruit, and licorice / Full body, chewy, some sweetness but hoppy, with excellent balance and a little heat on the bitter finish / Flavors of semisweet chocolate, dark roast coffee, bourbon barrel, licorice, fig, and date / Small deduction for the booze, but just superb.

22 oz. bottle- Pours black with a thin tan head. Aroma is strong roasted malts, cocoa, figs. The taste is creamy, smooth, velvety, chocolate, molasses, syrupy, and somewhat alcoholic. I like this edition, but It doesn’t seem to push any boundaries, I wish it was a little more experimental. Body is full and coats the mouth with syrupy chocolate milk, carbonation is moderately low. Overall I think I already said it, very good, but a little basic, and overly syrupy, I was hoping for it to be more unique.

651mL thanks to the Dfromson crew. Clear sepia pour. Weak head. Nose is meaty, herbal, sage, rendered fat. Taste is sharply herbal, black pepper, small orange and grapefruit juice bitterness. Very delicious- almost Black IPA. Lighter, hop forward. So sticky sweetness. Yum. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Thanks to Dixonian for this one. Aroma is dry, earthy chocolate, some roast, fudge, a touch of bourbon, citrus hops. Pour is dark brown with an off-white head. Flavor matches the aroma with a bitter quality to it. Tons of chocolate and roast, some citrus hops, dark fruits. Good stuff but I want to try it again in 6 months.

Bottle
Appearance - Deep cloudy brown, soft lacing
Aroma - Smoke, cherries, hops, chocolate, oak
Taste - Hoppy, dry, fruity, earthy, roasted malts, mellow vanilla and oak

Shared by the oh-so-generous OmegaX - thanks friend. This year’s version has a rich porter character, and the oak helps the smooth dry body. Overall pretty fresh and roasty, perhaps aging would mellow this one out a bit.
