COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
XXIV. 24 years after Black Butte Porterís debut, our potent, layered, imperial tribute returns. As usual, itís a jazz riff, guided by the brewerís muse and the lure of exotic ingredients. Artisanal dark chocolate nibs. Daglet dates. Mission figs. It may, possibly, hopefully, be the best edition yet. But, as it should be, youíll be the judge of that.

On tap @ ‹ber. Pours inky brown with thick mocha head. Aroma is Belgian chocolate and dark roasty malts. Taste is bittersweet chocolate, charred oak, rich fig and raisin flavors, and floral hop bitterness to balance things out. I donít taste much dates. Iím missing the orange from XXIII and definitely the barrel aging of the previous versions... doesnít sound or taste like this had any time in the barrel. Either way, this deserves aging for a proper evaluation.

Black pour with a tan head. Dark chcoolate and sweet and roasty. Some dark fruits and figs are present as well. Taste is creamy and rich with some nice vanilla and a nice spicey bite. Loving this stuff!!!!!

Black. Tan head. Big chocolate and roasted malt, molasses, mostly sweet, very (very) full body, with some coffee. This is really nice. Nearly perfect for the style.

I have got to weigh in on this one, because, to me, it didnít have the pleasing chaaractistics of last yearís anniversary ale. While this had dried fruits, a bit of coffee, and a dark appearance, it had an upfront booziness that masked the character. Last yearís had a sense of smoothness of the palate, and the chocolate was complimentary in the lingering finish. Alas.

22oz bottle. Served at around 45F and allowed to warm in the glass.

Pours black with a small light brown head that fades to a tiny ring and leaves a few thin lines of lacing behind.

Complex aroma of chocolate, roasted malts, dark fruits, figs, bourbon, vanilla, oak, anise, everything is balanced very nicely with no one aspect ever overshadowing the others. Very good strength.

Flavor kicks up the chocolate notes, nice dark roasted malts, dark fruits, the figs and dates feature well, anise, some sweet bourbon and vanilla come through particularly well at the finish. For being so fresh for a beer with a best-after date, the 11% alcohol is very well hidden...itís there, but minor.

Mouthfeel is medium-full bodied, pretty sticky, low-ish carbonation.

Ultra-complex and very tasty. The bourbon plays well with the dates, figs and chocolate. A real treat. Gonna keep at least one bottle for the cellar, if not two.

On tap at PDX Brewery & Public House. Wow! Big nose of anise, dark chocolate, berries, and alc. fumes. Pitch black, great lacing. Wonderful dark chocolate cake flavors, with cherries and hints of strong roasted coffee beans. Also, a bit of phenolic burnt rubber taste. Smooth complex aftertaste. Heavy body, a bit of tickling carbonation. Creamy, brilliant complex flavors. The aftertaste goes on and on. Great!

Beer pours very dark in the glass with a nice head. First thing to notice in the aroma is the sweetness. Probably from the figs they used. There is also some raisins. Taste is big. There is a uniqueness in the taste almost like a cough syrup but sweeter. Roasted fruits linger in the finish.
