XXIV. 24 years after Black Butte Porterís debut, our potent, layered, imperial tribute returns. As usual, itís a jazz riff, guided by the brewerís muse and the lure of exotic ingredients. Artisanal dark chocolate nibs. Daglet dates. Mission figs. It may, possibly, hopefully, be the best edition yet. But, as it should be, youíll be the judge of that.

(Draught) Pours an opaque black body with a small beige head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, dark fruit, vanilla ice cream, and caramel. Flavor of chocolate, vanilla, caramel, figs, dates, and burnt toast.

Beer pours very dark in the glass with a nice head. First thing to notice in the aroma is the sweetness. Probably from the figs they used. There is also some raisins. Taste is big. There is a uniqueness in the taste almost like a cough syrup but sweeter. Roasted fruits linger in the finish.

Bottle shared with friends. Black creamy pour with low but good carbonation. Aroma has sweet hints of chocolate malt and cocoa nibs. Flavor is semi sweet with a somewhat dry finish. Not as complex as the previous batches but itís still pretty tasty.

Poured from a bottle into a stem glass, it pours black in color with a tan head, aroma is chocolate, malt and a fruity sweetness, the taste is chocolate, sweet, roasty malt and fruity palate is smooth, this is just a a great beer.

Pours black with a tan foam that dies down to just lacings on the glass. Aroma of chocolate, raisins, and figs. This has a big dark fruit taste with a definite black malt bitterness. Full bodied with an unsweetened aftertaste. Alcohol does not dry the palate but compliments that flavor profile. Donít know if this is the best edition yet, but Iíll keep a bottle for next year and see.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma has figs, dates, chocolate, some hebal/vegetal notes. Taste is semi-sweet and quite bitter with more vegetal notes. Iím not digginí this but I would like to see how it ages.

Deep obsidian black. Carmel cream head. Amazing nose rich in coffee, chocolate, plum. Smooth lusish mouth feel, light on the tongue, easy to drink. Yumm.

This was absolutely fantastic. Dark and thick and chewy and without the coffee notes of the other versions. Definitely my favorite. Had on tap at Khouryís. Will probably have to go buy a full bottle. The figs and dates, though not distinguishable individually to me, made for a tasty beer.

Dark, dark pour w/ thin brown head. Big aromas of prunes, figs, coffee & creamy chocolate. Sweet flavors upfront of figs, brown sugar & dark cherries, followed closely by bitter espresso, dark chocolate & roast. The sweet & bitter notes inter-mingle wonderfully! Great brew.

(22oz bomber) clear espresso brown, ring of fine tan bubbles. Nose of milk chocolate, vanilla, oats, graham cracker, fairly Rich and creamy. Light alcohol. Taste of alcohol, light chocolate, light roast, a bit too sweet perhaps but good in general. Needs a bit of time.
