COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
XXIV. 24 years after Black Butte Porter’s debut, our potent, layered, imperial tribute returns. As usual, it’s a jazz riff, guided by the brewer’s muse and the lure of exotic ingredients. Artisanal dark chocolate nibs. Daglet dates. Mission figs. It may, possibly, hopefully, be the best edition yet. But, as it should be, you’ll be the judge of that.

Serving: 22 oz. bottle via trade. It pours a viscous jet black with a large, dense, and lasting dark tan head. The nose is full of roasted malt and dried fruit. Rich and flavorful on the tongue. Notes of leather, tobacco, smoke, roasted malt, spicy hops, and dried stone fruit. Full bodied with lower carbonation and a lasting finish. Outstanding beverage that is holding up superbly.

Poured from tap to glass. Nice dark color with thick tan head. Aroma was huge malt, stone fruits, plum, figs, caramel, molases, chocolate. Pour was a bit cold, but as it warmed the aroma really started to explode. Taste was malty sweet up front with a nice bitterness from the roasted malt and great consistency. A bit ethanol at the end as the brew warmed up, but quite well rounded. Overall, a wonderful bomb of a beer. Super glad that I had the chance to try last year’s release available from the tap.

Vertical bottle share. Aroma is booze with some dark malt and some oak. Appearance is dark. Taste is dark fruit that starts sweet that turns spicy and then finishes a dark dry. Overall, a great beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

650 ml bottle, thanks Jesse. Pours a pitch black colour with a small beige head. Aroma of rich roasted malts, chocolate, biscuit and licorice. Rich flavour of roasted malts, burnt bread, grass, salt, palm, some soy sauce notes and wood. Nice bitterness too. Full bodied, oily mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Lingering bitter, rich and roasty finish. Great.

650ml bottle. Thanks Jesse!

Pours pitch black with a light brown head. Aroma of roastiness, dark ripe fruits and berries, chocolate, syrup, wood and vanilla. Taste is strong, roasty and sweetish with notes of dark chocolate, hints of syrup, wood and vanilla. Finish is smooth, heavy and complex with notes of wood, vanilla, syrup, dark chocolate, roastiness and cocoa. Well balanced, tasty and complex imperial porter. Great stuff.

Sampled from a 0.65l bottle @ Top Hops (BA) Bottle Share. A deep dark almost black one with a nice deep brown sidesticking top. Lots of deep dark caramel sweetness in the nose, some spiciness also. I get thick chocolate, cocoa and roasted malts. So nice. It’s really smooth on the tongue this. A little bit of alcohol voice, dark malts with tarmac, dark fruits and roasted malts before I get hints of licorice and even a little bit of gunpowder in the finish and aftertaste. Yeah, this is just fantastic. 15.06.2013

Bottle. Pours dark black with brown head. Aroma is bourbon, dates, chocolate and soy sauce. Flavor matches aroma pretty well. Nice creamy beer, lots of bourbon on the tongue and booziness is great at the end.

UPDATED: SEP 8, 2013 Wow, straight hit with figs, dates, and mild chocolate aromatics. Pours deep dark with nice fine head. Taste immediately hits with soft but strong chocolate, followed by more brashness from the fruit. Overall, a wonderful beer!

Taster at Standard Market. Dang, I missed the fact that Standard was having a Deschutes tap takeover Monday, But I just happened to walk in and find this retired beauty on tap, which I got to side-by-side with the XXV. This one has a heady smell of cocoa and stewed figs. Looks solid black, but then you notice the faint brown highlights along the sides. Taste is dark and a bit grainy, but not highly roasted. Has a slight bourbon note, even though I believe this is not BBA. Carries a light fizz that makes it a great alcohol delivery system. Picks up a little more Kahlua note toward the end.
