XXIV. 24 years after Black Butte Porterís debut, our potent, layered, imperial tribute returns. As usual, itís a jazz riff, guided by the brewerís muse and the lure of exotic ingredients. Artisanal dark chocolate nibs. Daglet dates. Mission figs. It may, possibly, hopefully, be the best edition yet. But, as it should be, youíll be the judge of that.

Darkest black with a neat greay tan head that disappears once your back is turned. Sweet prune and figgy rich wholesome nose, lightly charred and a smudge of booziness. Silky as youíd expect for the mouthfeel, leading an initial taste of tarred chocholate and sprigs of sweetness with strumming roast - thread of booze tang throughout. Finish of chewed liquorice drippings and neat bitter roast but a bit of an over-sweet boozy linger.

Bottle, Cheers Paul!, November in December Tasting

Bottle: dark ruby & deep brown body with a khaki colored head that leaves mild lacing behind. Aroma is bursting with dried dark fruits; figs, dates, bruised prunes. Lots of sweetness & booziness is apparent with mild cocoa in the back end. Heavy alcohol aroma - much heavier than expected. Taste is also quite boozy & very raisin/fig heavy. Occasional roasted malt & cocoa, but mostly booze soaked figs, raisins, dates, various dark fruit. Slight hint of burnt sugar mouth coating. I donít love this like everyone else... Too much dark fruit & surprisingly boozy (even at 11% ABV, you can expect some alcohol, but this had an unpleasant whiskey burn).

Great nose, fruits, figs, dates and plums, then the taste of dark chocolate a touch of coffee and bourbon. Also i got toast, no butter and jam but just toast.

on tap at PDX pub Black ale with a transient mocha quilt atop the oil. With swirl the foam makes an appearance. The nose on this bitch does not disappoint: vanilla, cocoa, dates with figs less so, hint of sweet alcohol with whiskey notations - a rich nose. Flavor carries the cocoa as a baseline for me, layered with light cafe, sweet booze (not as hot as the nose), the dates carry through and the finish accents the figs. The body is silky, full and warming. The breath back is full and sensual. I would put this inside me again, and I will. Serving type: on-tap 08-09-2012

22oz bottle shared thanks to Lukaduke! Pours dark brown-black. Nose is fruity roasty chocolate, dark cherry, fig, plum. Taste is more of the same with a nice finish of dark fruit and roast coffee, malt. A touch boozy but still pretty nice.
