COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
XXIV. 24 years after Black Butte Porter’s debut, our potent, layered, imperial tribute returns. As usual, it’s a jazz riff, guided by the brewer’s muse and the lure of exotic ingredients. Artisanal dark chocolate nibs. Daglet dates. Mission figs. It may, possibly, hopefully, be the best edition yet. But, as it should be, you’ll be the judge of that.

Black with good (barrel-aged), creamy brown head / Rich, complex nose of whiskey barrel, chocolate, dark fruit, and licorice / Full body, chewy, some sweetness but hoppy, with excellent balance and a little heat on the bitter finish / Flavors of semisweet chocolate, dark roast coffee, bourbon barrel, licorice, fig, and date / Small deduction for the booze, but just superb.

Had this on tap at Iron Barley in St. Louis. Very smooth. Very nice. Pours black. Toffee roast chocolate. Slightly sweet. Somewhat alcoholic. Nice.

Great aroma beautifully black pour. Great beer all around. It did have very apparent alcohol. This was by far the oldest beer I’ve consumed. It was on New Year’s eve and was a great way to bring in the new year.

22oz bottle. Pours jet black with small brown head. Aroma is mostly chocolate. Rich sweet malty flavor with chocolate notes. Just a hint of booziness. Full bodied with a creamy texture that coats the mouth and throat and leaves a bit of chocolate in the finish. Very enjoyable. Going to grab another bottle of this to store for a year or so.

On tap. Black with a thin fizzy off white head. Cola, cherry, orange, black licorice and chocolate aroma and taste with a creamy palate and a bitter dark chocolate finish. Interesting, complex, and well done.

Had this one aging for awhile but was unable to resist drinking it early for Christmas. Has a strong aroma of chocolate and sweet fruits with a boozy undertone that is well hidden by the taste. Taste follows the aroma with sweet fruit being the dominant flavor, but really has some complexity to it that adds an element to this beer not often found. I may buy another of this to give it the proper aging and edit my review, but even without being fully aged this beer is pretty damn good!

One of my top 20 beers I have taste. Great aroma, the chocolate couldnt even bring out the best out of me since I am not chocolate eater...but this one was strong enough for me to enjoy. Great beer all around. Will want the XXV for sure!

Pours black with a thin ring of tan foam and lacing that hangs on the glass. Aroma is licorice, black strap molasses, roast, and char. Taste is oak, dark roasty malts, light hops, black licorice, and dark caramel. This is more of a rich imperial stout than a porter. Really dense aroma and flavor that come together in a unique and beautiful fashion. Spectacular offering.

Taster at Standard Market. Dang, I missed the fact that Standard was having a Deschutes tap takeover Monday, But I just happened to walk in and find this retired beauty on tap, which I got to side-by-side with the XXV. This one has a heady smell of cocoa and stewed figs. Looks solid black, but then you notice the faint brown highlights along the sides. Taste is dark and a bit grainy, but not highly roasted. Has a slight bourbon note, even though I believe this is not BBA. Carries a light fizz that makes it a great alcohol delivery system. Picks up a little more Kahlua note toward the end.
