COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
XXIV. 24 years after Black Butte Porter’s debut, our potent, layered, imperial tribute returns. As usual, it’s a jazz riff, guided by the brewer’s muse and the lure of exotic ingredients. Artisanal dark chocolate nibs. Daglet dates. Mission figs. It may, possibly, hopefully, be the best edition yet. But, as it should be, you’ll be the judge of that.

22oz bottle. Pours jet black with small brown head. Aroma is mostly chocolate. Rich sweet malty flavor with chocolate notes. Just a hint of booziness. Full bodied with a creamy texture that coats the mouth and throat and leaves a bit of chocolate in the finish. Very enjoyable. Going to grab another bottle of this to store for a year or so.

Had this one aging for awhile but was unable to resist drinking it early for Christmas. Has a strong aroma of chocolate and sweet fruits with a boozy undertone that is well hidden by the taste. Taste follows the aroma with sweet fruit being the dominant flavor, but really has some complexity to it that adds an element to this beer not often found. I may buy another of this to give it the proper aging and edit my review, but even without being fully aged this beer is pretty damn good!

Pours black with a thin ring of tan foam and lacing that hangs on the glass. Aroma is licorice, black strap molasses, roast, and char. Taste is oak, dark roasty malts, light hops, black licorice, and dark caramel. This is more of a rich imperial stout than a porter. Really dense aroma and flavor that come together in a unique and beautiful fashion. Spectacular offering.

Strong dark chocolate aroma with some fruity esters of plum. Surprisingly smooth at first. High fruity eater profile with an aftertaste of coffee, dark chocolate, raisins and dates. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours an opaque, very dark brown with a light mocha, nitrogen-like foamy head. Vanilla and coconut dominate the aromas. Some dark roast malt is in the background. The mouthfeel is quite pleasant. Creamy, thick, and just enough carbonation for balance. Chocolate and coconut flavors present first. Some coffee emerges in the middle. Sweet coconut and brown sugar at the finish. This is a lovely imperial stout. No alcohol flavor or warmth noted at all.

2012 Sammy Grey Cup tasting. Very dark brown. Light brown head. Great aroma of booze and dark fruit. Beer gives you a spirit like breath. Body is so delicate. Flavour of delicate tobacco, molasses, booze and dark fruit.

Pours dark brown-black with a light brown head. Aroma of chocolate, cocoa, raisins, bourbon, figs, vanilla, and earth. Flavor is equally multi-faceted with dark chocolate, cocoa, vanilla, lots of raisin, fig, wood and earthy bitterness. Finishes slightly drying and more bitter but there’s still plenty of roasted coffee, dark chocolate and dark fruit flavor. Full bodied, nicely carbonated and low heat presence make this a joy to drink. Love it!
