COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
XXIV. 24 years after Black Butte Porter’s debut, our potent, layered, imperial tribute returns. As usual, it’s a jazz riff, guided by the brewer’s muse and the lure of exotic ingredients. Artisanal dark chocolate nibs. Daglet dates. Mission figs. It may, possibly, hopefully, be the best edition yet. But, as it should be, you’ll be the judge of that.

Pours a thick, viscous, dirty motor-oil black with a small tan head on top. Fair retention of the foam. Some light sticky globs hang around after each sip. Rich flavorful aromas of chocolate, roasted malts and coffee, bourbon - all enveloped in a sweet scent of fruit. There’s something about these big bold stouts/porters when they mix in fruit character that I really dig. Amazing feel as this viscous beer wraps up the palate in a wash of velvety goodness. Subtle carbonation, heavy feel. This is a sipper for sure. A wonderful treat to close out the night with. Big flavors of dark fruit - plum, fig, raisin. Sweetness pulls through with notes of vanilla, bourbon, brown sugar. Mild roasted quality helps bring this one around and prevents this from becoming a total sweet bomb. This was a really great beer, and a reminder why this is one of my most anticipated releases each year. Wasn’t a fan of the XXIII, so this was a pleasant treat. A wonderful marriage of dark fruits and dark chocolate in the form of a fantastic beer.

Smells very good on the nose, taste is potent. The figs and dates are apparent. Bought 2 of these so Ican age one for a year. Love this stuff... ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Chocolate, caramel, sweet aroma. Can smell a little alcohol. Sweet chocolate, roasted flavor; beneath that is some nice flavor from the dates, and substantial hop flavor.

Vinous nose with a spartan head. Coats the glass like simple syrup. Sweet forward, full bodied with a rich, chocolate finish. The 11% heat comes through on the wain. A very good sipper. ~m --RaucusBacchus

lot of date, some fig, some vanilla, touch of smoke, bits of fat, good mouthfeel -- heft, slightly creamy, nothing vinous or like spirits, big but not overbearing even at 11. very well constructed. those sharp, clear malts lacking the tarnish of oxidation are a much appreciated deschutes trait. While I’m not a fan of big beers generally, I love this beer.

Portland, Or - on tap at the Deschutes Portland Public House. Ink black pour, thick, sticky khaki colored head. Aroma of chocolate, vanilla and marshmallows. Flavor has an abundance of licorice, black coffee and creosote. Thick, sticky, creamy mouthfeel. Excellent dessert.

On tap @ the brewpub in Bend. Opaque black-brown, with a finely bubbled brown head. Aromas of treacle, vanilla, coffee, and vague dark fruits. Richly flavoured, coffee, chocolate, vanilla, dates, soft oaky undertones, nuances of raisins and a hint of aniseed. Outstanding, as usual.

One of my favorite anniversary beers that I have been stealthfully able to keep up with. This years was smuggled back on an emergency trip out to San Diego. 22 poured into a pint glass. The chocolate and figs are very apparent. This is one of the richest, deepest, most complex porters you will ever come across. Smooth on the sip and entirely too easy to drink at 11%.

Poured from a 22 ounce bomber, thanks Ed. I love this beer, rich chocolate, roasted malts, fruity, woody, coffee, vanilla, bourbon. The finish is fairly dry(considering the abv) making this a nice drinking beer.
