COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
XXIV. 24 years after Black Butte Porter’s debut, our potent, layered, imperial tribute returns. As usual, it’s a jazz riff, guided by the brewer’s muse and the lure of exotic ingredients. Artisanal dark chocolate nibs. Daglet dates. Mission figs. It may, possibly, hopefully, be the best edition yet. But, as it should be, you’ll be the judge of that.

Serving: 22 oz. bottle via trade. It pours a viscous jet black with a large, dense, and lasting dark tan head. The nose is full of roasted malt and dried fruit. Rich and flavorful on the tongue. Notes of leather, tobacco, smoke, roasted malt, spicy hops, and dried stone fruit. Full bodied with lower carbonation and a lasting finish. Outstanding beverage that is holding up superbly.

On draught at Lucky Labrador for the 17th Annual Barleywine and Big Beer Festival. Pitch black with dark tan head. Aroma of dates, plums, dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malt. Taste is similar to aroma but with cocoa nib, toffee, and bourbon notes as well. For such a big beer, it finishes very smooth, with a wonderful multilayered dessert-like aftertaste.

On tap at PDX Brewery & Public House. Wow! Big nose of anise, dark chocolate, berries, and alc. fumes. Pitch black, great lacing. Wonderful dark chocolate cake flavors, with cherries and hints of strong roasted coffee beans. Also, a bit of phenolic burnt rubber taste. Smooth complex aftertaste. Heavy body, a bit of tickling carbonation. Creamy, brilliant complex flavors. The aftertaste goes on and on. Great!

Black pour with a tan head. Dark chcoolate and sweet and roasty. Some dark fruits and figs are present as well. Taste is creamy and rich with some nice vanilla and a nice spicey bite. Loving this stuff!!!!!

Poured into a snifter. Jet black with a brown/tan head. Aroma is sort of earthy with dark fruit and some vanilla. Flavor is quite complex with dark chocolate, some sweetness and dark fruit characteristics from the dates and figs, a nice roasty undertone, and some vanilla oak notes. Really nice combination. Palate is medium/full bodied and fairly creamy with some light astringency from the roastiness. Overall this was a little more mellow than the previous Black Butte anniversary editions, but still has really nice complexity of flavor.

Chocolate, caramel, sweet aroma. Can smell a little alcohol. Sweet chocolate, roasted flavor; beneath that is some nice flavor from the dates, and substantial hop flavor.

Pours black with cocoa head. Aromas are sweet bourbon, vanilla and roasty notes....burnt sugar too. Sweet chocolate, bourbon, and vanilla flavours with a beautiful dark chocolate finish. Smooth and silky with a touch of carbonation. Excellent.

Pours very dark with a huge dark tan head leaving lots of lacing. Aroma is cocoa, coffee, figs, bourbon, vanilla and oak. Taste is similar to the nose, with lots of cocoa, chocoalate, bourbon, oak and more chocolate. Medium body with a creamy texure and lively carbonation. Alcohol shows in the aftertaste as it warms. Overall, a tasty sipper with lots going on. Cheers!

22 oz black waxed bomber into a Bolt Cutter glass. Best after: 07/23/13. Thanks Steimie! A - Pours a pitch black body. Just a slight bit of light makes it through the edges to show a dark brown color. Short lasting two fingers of khaki foam. Decent lacing and retention. S - Super smokey malts. Burnt caramel, savory black peppercorns, herbal licorice, sweet dark chocolate and loads of figs and dates. Its like a fig newton was dropped into a smoked porter. Insanely complex and unique. T - Roasted malts lead into an interesting plethora of flavors that weave in and out of savory and sweet. Caramel, brown sugar, peat, black pepper, dark chocolate and rich figs. Aftertaste of char. Taste is phenomenal and just all over the place. M - Alcohol heat is present but welcome. Medium bodied with a nice level of carbonation. O - A bit confusing and overwhelming but very tasty and unique. Would certainly be interested in seeing how it turns out after the "Best After" date.
