COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dates, figs and chocolate. Black currants, barrel-aged in bourbon casks. The result is an Imperial Porter with a tart berry and chocolate aroma with luscious layers of dried fruit, oak and vanilla. A fitting tribute to the 25th Anniversary of our flagship beer.

Pours a dark chestnut brown with a frothy head the color of coffee ice cream. The liquid looked almost viscussy coming out of the bottle. Aroma of currents, malt and other dark fruits. The flavor seems to change a bit with each sip. The first was almost sour but quickly melted into a nice chocolate and coffee finish. The next sip was deep and dark, with flavors of molasses and honey around the edges. The beer is surprisingly smooth in the mouth, and has only a bit of alcohol to it. This beer doesn’t leave the best aftertaste in the mouth after you have swallowed, but I guess that just means its time to put some more beer in the mouth, right.

Dark red-brown clear but near opaque.thin head. Moderate level of BBL effect. Wonderful aroma is fruity with bourbon and a hint of sherry. Rich flavor adds dates and a bit of berry flavor. Medium-full body with appropriate light carbonation.

Shared by Taylor McKinney. Rich and dark pour with a lacing tan head. Very dense and rich pour, dark and dried fruits with some booze, wood, and Bourbon. Flavor shows some sherryish notes and lots of dark fruit, very raisiny. Medium full body with a coating palate.

Reviewed from notes. The appearance had a jet black colored body with a finger’s worth of off-white / maybe closer to a tan colored head, lacing speckles and clings in a messy sort of way. The smell had Bourbon up front but not as strong as expected (actually thought this would be boozier), but I’m not complaining, some raisins, chocolate, cinnamon, molasses, vanilla, a little bit of fig and some cherries. The taste had a spicy Bourbon sweet hotness (not sure how else to say it), and the rest of the aromas previously mentioned come out in the flavor, no aftertaste whatsoever, dry finish. On the palate, she sat a medium to heavy, not exactly sessionable (I wanna sip this the more I taste it), fairly hot. Overall, holy moley, this is a superb American Porter, I might have to grab another just to let it sit until its suggested drinking date.

Pours a deep black with a mocha colored head and good lacing. Fruits, alcohol, cherry, cocoa, brightness, bourbon. Smooth mouthfeel, coats the palette, some sweetness, flavors similar to the aroma, pretty tasty stuff.

Cybercat (2986) - Georgia, USA - MAR 15, 2014
Pours a deep coffee brown with a yellowish buff head. Aroma has caramel, coffee, chocolate and fruity notes. Fruity, caramel and chocolate notes stand firmly on a foundation of roast malt that complements all of the notes very nicely. Smooth, firm and fairly fizzy texture leaves a nice finish. Catch all the Black Buttes you can!

Shared bomber. Pours almost pitch black with small lacing on top. Some sour notes in the nose, blackcurrants and vanilla. At first the blackcurrant dominates the taste. As it settles down and warms up I get lots of vanilla, raisins and some toffee. Pretty solid.

Bomber. Pours a dark brownish-black, smallish off-white head with little retention, but nice lacing. Nose is big dried fruits (raisins, dates and figs), bourbon barrel, cocoa, brown sugar, toffee. Mouth is medium-full bodied, kinda sticky, slight sweetness up front raisins, dates, booze, caramel, then fades quickly into a lot of bitterness mingled with a slight tang (I’m guessing that’d be the black currant), with a flavor is almost what I’d describe as soapy. Some coffee and soot towards the back end. Definitely complex, although not thoroughly in a way that I’d like it to be. Anyhow, opened this in honor of one of the NHL’s greatest defensemen of all time, Nicklas Lidstrom, whose number (5) was retired at Joe Louis Arena tonight, and was always a class act.
