Dates, figs and chocolate. Black currants, barrel-aged in bourbon casks. The result is an Imperial Porter with a tart berry and chocolate aroma with luscious layers of dried fruit, oak and vanilla. A fitting tribute to the 25th Anniversary of our flagship beer.

Very dark brow pour with a chocolate colored head. A fine mix of very dark fruits, vinous notes, cherries, coffee, roasted malt and chocolate. Light bourbon as well.

Appearance: Pours dare I say black with a thin white ring.

Aroma: Ripe dark fruit, brambles, chocolate, wood, port.

Taste: Slight roast, herbal hops, wood, chocolate, dark fruit, tobacco, light spirits, bitter chocolate.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied modest carbonation.

Overall: I enjoyed this beer well before it’s enjoy after date. Last years recipe was a bit too sweet and had too much ripe dark fruit, this years was balanced with a few other flavors I enjoy. I think this is ready to drink now.

Bottle @ Greg’s dump. Pours a dark brown appearance, fairly clear with a thin dark brown head. Bourbon, roasty, dark chocolate, a bit woody, anise aroma. A bit hot, rich chocolate, oaky, moderate bourbon, dark fruity, anise flavor. Kind of boozy but kind of fun.

Take your normal black butte flavor, more booze, toffee, malty sweetness. Deep black with a toffee head.

Bomber, bottle say best after04.16.2014, which I didn’t notice until I opened it, oh well. Near black pour with a 1 finger, soapy orange-tan head that has great retention and leaves decent lacing. Aroma is full of dark fruit, chocolate, some coffee, a decent bit of oaky and grainy bourbon, roast, dark toffee, roasted nuts and some berry notes. Flavor is loaded with dates, rum and chocolate up front, then comes in some coffee, oaky, grainy bourbon, toffee, light, tart berry notes and some nice, chocolate, roast and light resinous hops to the finish. Medium to heavy body, with a creamy, entry, leading to a slightly dry, chewy finish with a light, though slightly sharp carbonation. Pretty awesome stuff overall, lots of intense roasty malt, bourbon and sweet dark fruit stuff going on, but that little hint of tartness really sort of wakes up the taste buds after a few sips and keeps this big beer from being too palate fatiguing. I will definitely try to grab a bottle and try it after it’s "Best After" date. Interesting and delicious.

Vertical bottle share. Aroma is dark fruit and dark malt. Appearance is a transparent dark brown with some tan head. Taste is dark fruit with some bourbon and a dark, dry finish. Overall, a good beer that needs some age. Looking forward to trying it aged. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
