Dates, figs and chocolate. Black currants, barrel-aged in bourbon casks. The result is an Imperial Porter with a tart berry and chocolate aroma with luscious layers of dried fruit, oak and vanilla. A fitting tribute to the 25th Anniversary of our flagship beer.

Bottle. Pours a near-black color with a smallish tan head that disappears quickly. Nose has a decent amount of bourbon in it, but you can get some dark fruit and roasting underneath there, if you pry hard enough. You can get a little sweetness from the fruit in the taste up front, with darker roasting afterwards, and definite oakiness throughout. Smooth and satisfying...

Nice, similar to the XXIV not quite as fruity. Same figs, dates, nuts and bourbon feel to the beer for me not quite as nice.

Whiskey and toffee with some dates and vanilla. Black with a quickly fading dark tan head. Tons of lacing. Slightly effervescent, some coffee and cocoa bitterness. Dark fruit, coffee, booze, licorice. Just a hint of spice at the finish and a lingering boozy warmth in the throat.

Bottle at Craig’s. Pours jet black with tan head. Aromas are dark chocolate, vanilla. Taste is more dark chocolate, dark sugars, whisky and berries at the end. Sweet. thinner than the 24, quite a sticky texture though. Nice.

Bottle, thanks Mike. Black with tan head. Aroma os slightly elusive, roasty chocolate and slightly tangy. Taste of rich roasty chocolate, touch of whisky. Licorice, molasses. Sweet and bitter with a slightly sticky finish. Nice but preferred the xxiv.

Pours a dark black color with no head. Aroma is woody and bourbon with dark chocolate. The taste is smooth. Sweet, sour, and bitter. This beer has a lot going on. Rich chocolate filed by sweet and sour berries and a lightly bitter burnt malt aftertaste. Perfect beer for a cold winter night by the fire.

Bottle thanks to Kipp ! Pours a deep burnt umber color with two fingers of bubbly khaki foam. The nose is weird a bi tof clay, play dough, caramel and chocolate upfront with hints of licorice and plum. The palate follows with a slick mouthfeel and a medium roastiness, lots of chocolate, some dark fruit and some strange earthy caramel. Something about this beer is underwhelming but I just can’t put my finger on it exactly.

Tap at Beer Revolution, Oakland. Colour is black with slightly brownish white head. Aromas and flavours: Coffee, licorice, berries? and roasted malts. Has some elements of red wine, quite massive but easy to drink.

Draft. Roasty, darkly sweet, chocolate aroma, lightly spicy and toasty with notes of sweet alcohol, oak, currant, dark, berryish fruit, roasted malts, dark chocolate, faint bourbon, char and earthiness. Opaque black color, with a fine, uneven, slight, light tan head, some sparse lacing and legs noted as well. Flavor profile is exceedingly complex, with suggestions of pepper, dark chocolate, toffee, old wood, dark fruit, fig, black currant, rich, dark malts, toasted bread, cherry, earth, alcohol, bourbon and faint espresso. Warming and gently acidic on the palate, low in effervescence with a huge body. Seems to go on forever. This is a gigantic beer.
