Wonderful! Black Butte Porter is my favorite of the style, and the XXV did not disapoint. Add the great Bourbon notes to this complex Porter and not overpower it! Perfect!

Pours a deep coffee brown with a yellowish buff head. Aroma has caramel, coffee, chocolate and fruity notes. Fruity, caramel and chocolate notes stand firmly on a foundation of roast malt that complements all of the notes very nicely. Smooth, firm and fairly fizzy texture leaves a nice finish. Catch all the Black Buttes you can!

Shared bomber. Pours almost pitch black with small lacing on top. Some sour notes in the nose, blackcurrants and vanilla. At first the blackcurrant dominates the taste. As it settles down and warms up I get lots of vanilla, raisins and some toffee. Pretty solid.

Bomber. Pours a dark brownish-black, smallish off-white head with little retention, but nice lacing. Nose is big dried fruits (raisins, dates and figs), bourbon barrel, cocoa, brown sugar, toffee. Mouth is medium-full bodied, kinda sticky, slight sweetness up front raisins, dates, booze, caramel, then fades quickly into a lot of bitterness mingled with a slight tang (Iím guessing thatíd be the black currant), with a flavor is almost what Iíd describe as soapy. Some coffee and soot towards the back end. Definitely complex, although not thoroughly in a way that Iíd like it to be. Anyhow, opened this in honor of one of the NHLís greatest defensemen of all time, Nicklas Lidstrom, whose number (5) was retired at Joe Louis Arena tonight, and was always a class act.

On tap. Pour is dark with a thin brown head. Aroma is of burnt chocolate, raisins, molasses, and dark fruits. Flavor is not as sweet and has a lot of the barrel aging coming through - oak, vanilla, chocolate, roast.

On tap at Avery Strong Ale Festival. Appearance: hazy dark brown color, brown head. Aroma: bourban, coffee, roast, sweet fruits, figs. Palate: soft carbonation, full body, rides the fine line between creamy and oily. Taste: fruity and malty sweet mixture. Overall, great taste, balance is awesome, one of my favorites of the event.

Bottle from a recent trade. Shared with Peter and Gail. Small snifters. Great jet black pour with an opaque body. Off-white head with some lacing. Aroma of dark fruits, chocolate, vanilla, and oak barrel. The taste was similar with the dark fruits and oak coming through, Slight sweetness from the malts. Finish is vanilla, oak barrel and dark chocolate. Medium body, light carb. I would have enjoyed a little heavier body. But very good overall.
