Our 26th anniversary imperial porter was aged in bourbon barrels and dry spiced with theo chocolate’s cocoa nibs, revealing hints of vanilla and chocolate. Pomegranate molasses and Oregon cranberries complement the robust flavor with a hint of fruits and just enough tart to make you smile. Note:- Best After date can be found stamped on the left-hand side of the label.

From tap @ Binny’s Clybourn. Pours brownish black w large beige head. Some smoked malt and pomegranate breath mints... Mostly the roasted notes. T: full rich bitter, juicy roasted malt. Turns bitter in the aftertaste. Funny fruity porter like beer with a creamy texture.

Looked really nice pouring, almost black with a hint of deep red, moderate with a hint of lacing. Aroma is mostly cocoa with a hint of fruit. Taste is a bit tart upfront, some alcohol burn and finishes bitter chocolate. Lotsa sediment here! Overall, I thought it was a bit thin, I expected something a bit more "chewy", and I could do without the cranberries and pomegranate.

On tap at Champps Americana in Brookfield. Black pour with a tan head leaving spotty lacing. Aroma has big chocolate and cocoa, more liqueur-y than nib-y. Plus heavy vanilla, caramel, some molasses.and tangy fruit. Taste is of sweet vanilla, caramel, some dark fruit, and chocolate malts. A bit rough. Full bodied and chewy. Some alcohol. Finishes long and vanilla/bourbony/fruity sweet although the bitter choco-roast fought it for balance. Excellent. Glad there is one in the cellar. 16.3

Black color with generous tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, with a hint of chili peppers and some fruity acidity. Good body structure, the mouthfeel is lean, not thick, combination of just moderate bitterness with high alcohol content; nice flavor of roasted malts and dark chocolate, in balance, correct bitterness, a bit spicy, with light note of tobacco and vanilla, and mild sourness from the fruits.
Graceful blend of elements, very good beer.

Loved the best after date! Certainly was top notch porter with notes of caramel, fruit and molasses

bottle @ Party Town / Florence KY --- Opaque brown/black color, fluffy deep tan head, dots and spots of lace. Taste is toasted chocolate malt that adds alcoholic bourbon on the swallow, then moves it all to a medium-length finish. Big on taste, but the alcohol is a distraction, and it lays heavy in the stomach.

Pured from bottle into a chalice glass Appearance – The beer pours a nearly pitch black color with a small cream colored head. Upon swirling in the glass the beer appears thick, with fingers of the brew clinging to the sides of the glass. The head fades slowly over time with a little bit of steaky lace left on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma is huge of a sweeter chocolate and molasses with a moderately strong aroma of vanilla and some caramel. Along with these aromas comes hints of a darker fruit smell with some raisin, pomegranate, and plum being there. Along with these aromas comes come nice rich expresso smells as well as a very rich and warming bourbon smell. With a little bit of a licorice and some char a very dark, sweet, and warming smell invites one to try out the brew. Taste – The taste begins with a sweeter chocolate flavor with a good showing of dark fruit of pomegranate and plum with a decent showing of molasses. Throughout the taste, there is a dark and roasty taste which remains rather strong throughout all while some char develops more in the middle, fading a bit toward the end while other tastes of a boozy bourbon and oak come to the tongue. The mix of fruit, roasty, sweet, and bourbon give the brew and almost port wine like character and leave one with a dark and roasty, but fruity and sweet warming taste to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thinner side for such a potent brew of 10.8 % with a carbonation level that is rather low. Surprisingly, while the lighter thickness (for a 10.8 % brew) was not ideal for the dark porter flavors of the brew, the thinner body actually did very well for the pomegranate and red wine flavors of the brew and actually made for a surprisingly pleasant sipping but crisper and sweet taste overall. Overall – Not surprisingly for an imperial porter, it was a rather sweet and warming brew. With that said however, it had some more red wine like characteristics with a dark fruitiness and a thinner, more crisp feel which gave it an easier and more approachable drinkability. Not sure if it’s worth the more hefty price tag of $15, but it was a fun one to try.

Liikaa ollaan diskantilla. Bassoa siis puuttuu. Hyvinhän tämä laskee, mutta vähän nipistelee kurkunpäästä. Sellainen makea sahti.

Finally in Michigan. An oily look. Huge chunks at the bottom of the bottle. I mean huge. Sediment throughout the whole thing and made into the first pour. Maybe it’s just my bottle. Thin head. A bourbon vanilla nose with a light cranberry. A cranberry upfront flavor. A messy bourbon that blends into milk chocolate finish. Maybe I’m just looking for it but it taste like a bright pomegranate in the aftertaste. Decent but a lot going on and maybe too much. And for the bourbon barrel being the background it’s a little cheap in flavor.
