COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Deschutes Brewery and Hair of the Dog Brewing join forces to weave The Dissident and The Stoic and Fred and Adam into an artistic collage of cask-aging alchemy. Damn. Beer is fun!

Conflux No. 1 - Collage is the second release in the Deschutes Conflux Series. These beers were brewed in March of 2010. One hundred percent of these beers spent two years aging in a variety of oak barrels: Rye Whiskey, Cognac, Sherry, Pinot Noir, Bourbon, used American Oak, new American Oak and new Oregon Oak.

Less than 200 barrels of this intelligent blend was produced.

Hazy red brown color with a small, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of wood, sherry, vanilla, dark fruits, caramel malts, oxidation and a bit of alcohol. Taste of much of the same, dried fruits, caramel, lots of barrel, oxidation, and a mildly tart finish. Really nice beer!

Bottle at home, 10/06/13, from Johns Marketplace PDX. Pours an opaque dark chestnut brown with dark amber hues in the light, thinnish off white head. Nose is dark fruits, light spice, rich caramel, oaky/woody notes, bourbon, dark malts. Taste comprises brown sugars, bourbon dosed wood, dark fruits, dates, prunes, booze. Full bodied, fine carbonation, warming alcohol in the finish. A fairly complex number, well balanced, nothing too over bearing the alcohol whilst present is well integrated.

Pours a muddy light brown with a small head and decent lacing. Aroma is a bit tart with brown sugar and a light fruit ester. Taste is toasted malt and a bit of apple tartness with brown sugar and only a hint of bitter and floral flavor. Mouthfeel is soft and medium bodied with light/medium carbonation.

2013 bottle to a snifter. Pours a cloudy brown color like a strong tea. Aroma is tart with a bit of soy sauce and apple cider with some brown sugar. Taste is surprisingly malty up front with the brown sugar coming through in the middle either some spice and tartness at the end. Traces of floral and grain and maybe even some tropical fruit. Complex and subtle in the variety of tastes. Medium mouthfeel with a little dryness. Easy drinking. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A muddy dark brown color, like a thick iced tea. Has a tart like sour smell, some sort of fermenting fruit, soy sauce, sweet vinegar. A sweet initial taste, some brown sugar with a little tart, sweet tea, low on carbonation, pretty smooth and unique. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz bottle. Enjoy after 4.30.2013. Booze yet sweet aroma, mild head with light carbonation, taste of sherry, bourbon with sour notes. More time in bottle is necessary to fully appreciate.

On tap at the 1st annual Asheville Rare & Wild Beer Tasting 2013, this pours ruby-amber into the glass, with a minimal head that diminishes. The nose contains some yeasty sours. Sours and malts combine with brett to provide a complex mouthfeel, and the sour finish accents alcohol notes to set forth a slick, semi-boozy palate. There is a lot going on here; very complex with multiple aging barrels evident. This, in some ways, is a blessing and a curse, as it feels like so many contingencies are fighting for my attention, it’s sometimes gets in its own way. Kudos to the brewing process, though. That had to be a fun experiment!
