COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Deschutes Brewery and Hair of the Dog Brewing join forces to weave The Dissident and The Stoic and Fred and Adam into an artistic collage of cask-aging alchemy. Damn. Beer is fun!

Conflux No. 1 - Collage is the second release in the Deschutes Conflux Series. These beers were brewed in March of 2010. One hundred percent of these beers spent two years aging in a variety of oak barrels: Rye Whiskey, Cognac, Sherry, Pinot Noir, Bourbon, used American Oak, new American Oak and new Oregon Oak.

Less than 200 barrels of this intelligent blend was produced.

From notes. Enjoyed at the 3rd Annual Barleywine Tasting at Travisís house on February 20. 12oz bottle. The pour on this thing is a darker brown with a nice light brown bit of lace that falls down leaving a couple spots of lace. The aroma is pretty good. There is a big booze right up front. There is definitely influence from multiple booze sources. You can pick up the sweetness of the cognac, the spiciness of the rye, and the traditional bourbon. There is a definite woody portion to this. There is a little tart fruit and a nice caramel and roasted malt. The flavors are pretty good. Itís not as complex as the nose, but it pretty decent. There is the caramel, the dark fruits, and a big booziness. Itís definitely very complex. The mouth feel is thicker and nice, with a sharper carbonation and a lingering sour booziness. Itís one of the more interesting beers Iíve had in quite some time. Most of the beers that are in it are detectable in some aspect. Itís pretty solid. Not too shabby.

From a 12 oz bottle into a Chouffe tulip glass. Pours brown with head and lace. Aroma of tart and tangy fruit, sour mash, oak. Significant carbonation and mouthfeel. Flavors of dark tropical fruit juice, oak, bourbon, red wine, bitter herbs, plum juice, Cognac. Overall rich, bold, quite complex...perhaps a bit too complex but certainly interesting.

12 oz. bottle from DalzAle about 4 or 5 years ago, thanks Greg! Shared with illini08. This one has aged nicely. Medium brown pour with a decent, lasting head in spite of little carbonation. Aroma is slightly tart and woody. Flavor has notes of sour cherry/berry, oak, toffee and hints of tobacco and leather. Iíve never had Stoic, but can definitely pick out notes from the other three beers which make up this gem. Beers like this make me glad Iím still a Beer Knurd.

12 oz.mbottle shared by Willrunforbeer. Label reads Best After 4/30/2013. Yep we are go with that date!! Hazy caramel color without much head. Aroma is sour oak, vinegar and sour grain.

Flavor has a huge oak profile that has the notes of cognac and rye whiskey the labels speaks about. Base of the beer has strong malt with dark fruits (raisins, dates) with a syrupy texture that becomes dry from the large amount of oak. No sour notes is a huge plus for me. This is pretty nice.

Bottle. Almost no carbonation at all, virtually still. This is like an aged barleywine. Lots of cherry aroma. Oak, vanilla, and raisin. Sweet caramel and brown sugar. The bourbon is in there, which brings it down for me. Just a sherry barrel, that could have been something amazing. Nevertheless a great beer with complexity and good flavor.

Bottle thanks to Lubiere. Dark copper with a thin reddish tinged tan head. Figs, honey, oak, boozy, burnt toffee, warming. High carbonation and moderate body, somewhat tart, light vanilla, enjoyable.
