COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Deschutes Brewery and Hair of the Dog Brewing join forces to weave The Dissident and The Stoic and Fred and Adam into an artistic collage of cask-aging alchemy. Damn. Beer is fun!

Conflux No. 1 - Collage is the second release in the Deschutes Conflux Series. These beers were brewed in March of 2010. One hundred percent of these beers spent two years aging in a variety of oak barrels: Rye Whiskey, Cognac, Sherry, Pinot Noir, Bourbon, used American Oak, new American Oak and new Oregon Oak.

Less than 200 barrels of this intelligent blend was produced.

Bottle at The Owl. Massive thanks to Doodler. Pours clear deep brown; thin off-white head, poor lacing. Nose is just stunning: candy, barrel, tart notes, root beer, cherry bark, holy Christ is this amazing! Flavoursof deep fruit caramel cherry bark, and so very much more. Just a phenomenal brew.!

12 ounce bottle thanks to robloc303. Thanks man! Poured into my newly acquired Deschutes teku. Pours a darker copper to amber with no head. Aroma is raisins and booze. Lots of raisins and figs. Taste is a solid vanilla and bourbon. Sweet and boozy.

jstraw (1654) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUN 8, 2012
Dark red-amber with whispy, beige head, score adjusted for the age / Rich, sweet, complex nose of coffee, toffee, bourbon, nut, and oak / Full body, much thinner than I would have expected but then this is a 2 year old, mellow with great balance, but just fair, somewhat hot, finish / Complex but ultimately weak flavors of sherry, toffee, coffee, date and oak / Flavor and body doesn’t measure up to the stunning nose.

Bottle. Pours mahogany color with a little off white tight soapy head that rests with a thin film and foamy collar. Aroma is sweet and tart caramel wood with subtle wine scents. Taste starts out tart with wine characteristics and woodiness then turns with caramel burnt sugars and subtle vanilla and I get slight peat. Palate is dry and slick. Very complex and interesting brew, will enjoy trying again later on.

Bottle. The pour is a murky amber-brown color with a thin off-white head on top. The aroma at first unveils red wine and red plum notes, followed by caramel and bourbon, with wood chips, and a little raisin integrated nicely in the scent. The flavors are smooth and a touch warming with soothing bourbon notes and a hint of sherry. Caramel malt provides some sweetness with a strong vinous character from the pinot and a touch of acetic acid lending to it’s tartness. Flavors such as red grapes and plums give it a distinct fruity character while notes of tobacco and damp barrel wood offer plenty of depth. Despite everything going on, it does drink a tad lighter than expected but I wouldn’t call it thin. Fun beer to try. Good but probably not great.

A - Pours a cloudy red-brown color with a finger of frothy off-white head. The head fades down fairly quickly leaving behind some lace. S - Aroma is a mix of sour cherries with dark fruits, sweet caramelized sugars, caramel malts, oak, vanilla, Bourbon, and a bit of booze. T - Starts off with some sour cherries with some brown and caramelized sugars, caramel malts, and some vanilla. Through the middle, oak and Bourbon comes through with some raisin, date, and other dark fruits, and bit of sherry and Belgian yeast. The finish is a mix of sour cherry, vanilla, oak, caramelized sugars, dark fruit, and some booze. M - Full bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a warming and sweet finish. D - Very drinkable. The sourness of the cherries comes through nicely and the rest of the beer is big and bold but balances nicely.
