Isnít it how it always works? A few brewers sit around tippling and waxing poetic about what-ifs, wild ideas and untapped dreams when one suddenly proclaims "why not?" So the Conflux series was born, bravely leaping corporate and geographic barriers to jointly explore uncharted beeratory. Cheers, fellow explorers, cheers.

Second in a series, this citrusy, smooth white IPA is a fortuitous meeting of Deschutesí hop skills and Boulevardís deft wheat touch. Whatís 1,800 miles when a great beer is at stake?

"marked as a white ipa. i expected the deschutes version to be a spiced ipa and the boulevard version (collab #2) to be a hoppy wit, but the spice (orange, coriander) and dryness of this one was strong enough to overshadow the hoppiness a bit. the hops came out more as it warmed and struck a beatiful balance with a nice new summer style. citrusy hops and a wit married well. everything i expected by the end. glad i got a couple more. RB has it as a belgian ale, but itís either an ipa or a wit, i picked ipa... 2nd time started warmer...pretty close to 50 50 wit/ipa...loved it...was craving a 2nd bottle the day after the first."

650ml bottle, BB Date of 11/10/11. Been stored, vertically in cellar from purchase on release. Pours a wonderfully bright golden straw with a large fluffy white head that dies to a fine lacing. Aromas & flavours of hay, cereal, sweet wheat & malts, lemons, hint of ginger, bready, fruity spicy esters,. Medium bodied, a little creamy, fine soft carbonation leading to a very pleasant, citric, bitter, long finish. It doesnít resemble an IPA now, more like a Belgian strong golden ale. Itís been interesting seeing how this has aged....and itís aged wonderfully!

Vertabim from notes 16AUG11 Best by: 10NOV11 A: light grainy yellow ale with 2 fingers egg shell head. This falls quickly to a sheet of the same. No lace. S: Jasmine up front for me, plenty floral. Wheat, otherwise not much going on here. (whereís the IPA?) T: A bit of creamy wit feel, and some really pleasant floral flavors. I like the flavor, but Iím confused on the IPA aspect of this beer. sure there is a hint of bitterness, but, um, yeah, whatever. M: Moderate body with creamy feel and prickly carb. O: Worth a try. Probably shoulda just called this a wit collab. Serving type: bottle 08-18-2011

Bottle from South Bay Liquor: Created a small short lived layer of foam that eventually fizzes out while the liquid was a glowing yellow with a heaping serving of floaties (dead yeast). In the aroma, my nose instantly picks up on the heavy usage of orange peel, coriander, pepper, and a touch of green hops. The flavor is delicious and has a succulent taste of orange, grapefruit, mango, and completely decked out with spices such as coriander, clove, and a taste of pine. Definitely an interesting recipe and worth drinking again.

In short: A spicy Belgian Wit hopped like a refreshing fruity IPA. Nice White IPA.
How: Bottle 22oz. Consumed not fresh enough (got confused on the style because of the Epic Project 2 I received at the same time). Generous rating considering I should have dranked this one right away. Bottle from mcberko, thanks a lot Matt.
The look: Partly cloudy pale blond body topped by a medium white head with medium retention.
In long: Nose has nice wheaty bananas, tropical fruits and such. Taste has pineapples, lemongrass, lemony wheat, some bananas, coriander, ginger. Smooth refreshing fruity bitterness. Unlike most White IPAs (unofficial name for wheat based IPAs) this one seems to use a typical spicy Belgian Witbier as the base beer instead of the usual straight up wheat ale. This makes for a more yeasty and spicy take on the style but very pleasant nonetheless. Refreshing summer beer. A refreshing beer I enjoyed fridge temperature because before drinking a beer I take it from my wine cellar and put it in the fridge for a few minutes, then 5 minutes later I cannot find my beer in my wine cellar and I turn my place upside down looking for my beer, and with the other 20% of my life I do other stuff.

Bottle from Toronado in SF, shared with this dude from Beer Advocate who was honestly kind of a douchebag -- not only was he a braggart, but he drank about 2/3 of this one. Thanks, asshole. Pours hazy light orange with some visible yeast. Lots of sweet orange, some grain and wheat. Belgian yeast. A bit too sweet and add.

Got this guy as a random act of kindness, thanks Steve! Poured from a 22oz. bottle into a pint glass. A: Pours a hazy straw color with a light fluffy pure white head. The head slowly faints to a thin one centimeter film that follows me down the glass, along with some splotchy lace. S: The smell is very much the Belgian side and not so much the IPA side. The funky yeast is present, very light though. Some light flowery hops, but they are very much hidden behind behind the yeast. T: There are notes of the bubblegum funk from the yeast with a very light hoppiness although just like the nose the hops are put on the back burner to the yeast. M: Light and clean with a nice fruity ester palate coating quality to it. O: This drank more like witbier than a Belgian IPA. The hops definitely didnít shine through like I would have liked in a Belgian-style IPA, but it still was good none the less. I do have to dock it down a tick due to the style though. Iím want to try the Boulevard version I have in my fridge to see the differences. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 08-22-2011

Pours a brilliant gold with a fluffy white head and tons of yeast floaties. Very citrusy aroma. Lemon, orange, and hops. Also notes of pine. Has a velvety mouth feel that is sliced by the citrus aftertaste. I taste a hint of grass in there, not sure what gave the taste but it was welcome.

RBAG summer 2012. From brown 650ml bottle. Yellow pour, has a lot of haze and some small floaties. Head was small and creamy and sticky round the edges of the glass. Nose had bread, spice and citrus with a little sweetness. In the mouth the beer had nice bready and wheaty malts with decent hoppiness. Some straw and grass in the fade out. Dryish end, clean, easy drinker.
