3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 greenhorn1 (664) - Mission Viejo, California, USA - SEP 2, 2011
22 oz. Very light gold in color, thick head that leaves a lot of lacing. Aroma is full of spice. Flavor has hints of citrus and coriander. Lively carbonation and a slight bitter finish. ABV is well hidden. Goes down easy, refreshing.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 SamGamgee (2452) - down the whirlpool, California, USA - SEP 2, 2011
22oz bottle. Lots of citrusy coriander on the nose, sweet orange peel and tangy lime. Slight banana and strawberry as well. Hazy ale straw color with a fluffy white head. The flavor is moderately sweet with lots of tangy citrus and a medium-strong bitter finish. A little raw and doughy in the finish. Medium bodied with slightly over medium carbonation. This one is a big and flavorful mashup of citrus. I’m usually not a fan of imperial wits as they tend to be phenolic and boozy-sweet spice-bombs, but the IPA-cross approach here accentuates the cool fruity citrus notes of the coriander and orange peel, and the hop bitterness ties up the finish perfectly. A cool beer and perfectly refreshing and flavorful while we’re hitting some nice hot late-summer weather here in California.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 drjay44 (2126) - Salida, Colorado, USA - SEP 2, 2011
650 ml. bottle. Pours a medium, lasting white head, with some lacing, over a hazy, particle laden, yellow (SRM 3) body....nose is lemon-orange citrus, light coriander, bit of grapefruit peel, very light pine.....taste is soft sweet lemon-orange citrus at the start, then light allspice, finishing with a light lingering grapefruit bitterness, with a hint of clove....mouth feel light, carbonation medium. This is a very interesting collaboration. The malts come through and the hops were done with a relatively gentle hand. It is more of a hop heavy Witbier, than a spicy IPA. It is easy drinking, nicely balanced, reasonably complex, and refreshing. It is a grand summer beer. BJCP 7/3/15/4/7
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 dionysian_son (273) - Colorado, USA - SEP 2, 2011
Pours golden with white head. Nose is thin and notable for citrus, toast, and pepper. Medium body is smooth but with lively carbonation. Tangy taste starts moving into a bitter lemon with copper and yeasty threads to finish.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 popery (1119) - San Francisco, California, USA - SEP 1, 2011
The beer pours a pale yellow-gold with a big frothy white head. Bubbles cling to the walls. It has a very floral hop aroma. It’s all wildflowers, honeysuckle, potpourri and earth. The witbier spicing comes through with some coriander and a good dose of orange peel. Bready wheat spice makes a definite apperance, as well. There’s some fruity Belgian phenolic character, but it’s on the mild side and stays far from cloying territory. It’s yeastily dry with a good dose of orange peel and hop bitterness in the finish. The beer is refreshing and drinkable. You get a bit more Belgian character, but it’s all light malt and fruit notes. "Belgian IPA" doesn’t really describe this beer well, as it’s definitely an IPA melded with a witbier. It’s summery, spicy and lightly hoppy. The hops are wonderfully restrained while still making a significant contribution. Carbonation is fairly strong. There’s no booze to be found. The beer is light on the palate and lacks any rough edges. It tastes fresh. There’s a sort of saison-ish quality to it. This beer is more than the sum of its parts. It’s hard to stop drinking and easy to like.

very similiar to the boulevard version, but with more pronounced hop. favorite part about this beer is cost. retails at below the cost for the boulevard version, which is only slightly better if at all.

Bottle. Grapefruit and vanilla aroma. Appearance is milky yellow, kind of thin. Nice bitter citrusy taste, wheat, not a crazy amount of flavour, though. Not bad.

On tap at the Livermore Saloon. It pours yellow with a small disappearing white head. the aroma is very wheaty with notes of coriander, lemon, vanilla and citrusy/flowery hops. As for the flavor, think of a wit bier hopped like an IPA. It was light and spicy with overpowering hops reminiscent of pithy citrus rind. More flowery hops and soap in the finish. You can definitely tell this is a wheat beer, but I would have liked the hops dialed down a bit for a more balanced flavor. I still liked this though.

Straw/Golden Pour with medium creamy white head. Lots of carbonation. Nose is strongly corriander and orange peel
Super Spicy front palate. Overwhelmingly corriander /ginger/galanga/ sage with light malts and wheat characters Light body. Quick Bitter Finish.
This would be really good if it wasnt so spicy up front. A bitter wit is a nice idea but this doesnt quite work for me. Definitely too herbal/spiced
