One of the most asked questions at the festival is "are there any gluten-free beers available?" - Yes! This hop-forward Northwest pale ale is made of 100% gluten free ingredients: brown rice, sorghum and dark candy sugar. Itís hopped with Nugget, Centennial, Cascade and Citra hops for a Northwest gluten-free experience.

[2/27/15] Draught at Deschutes Brewery & Public House in Portland. Clear deep golden. weird aroma with soap, car air freshener tree and cereals. Harsh soapy and floral flavor with a bitter and slightly sourish finish. Light to medium-bodied.

Light amber with a small off-white head. Lots of citrusy hop aroma and a pleasant citrus hoppy flavor. Very bright crisp and flavorful. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

"Meh. Donít think the lack of gluten is the problem here, but having a NW anything with only 25 ibis? Where are the hops? I like the hops used here thereís just not enough to make this better than average..."

On tap at their Downtown Portland location - Pours clear golden with an off-white head. The aroma has fruity / spicy hops and some sweetness. It has a medium slick body with semi-sharp carbonation. The flavor starts off very hoppy with spice, floral and fruity hops. There is some honey sweetness and an interesting malt bill. The finish is sharp and hoppy. Probably the best gluten free beer Iíve had.

Tap at Deschutes in Bend. Pours a clear orange, medium foam with webby lacing. Nose is crazy strawberry chewing gum, strawberry mint. Taste is spicy mint tea, big sugar. Herbal tea finish. Not so bad.

Tap at OBE. Pours hazy golden amber with a slight white head. Mild aromas. Sort of cooked something. Med body. Flavor is citrus. Backbone definitely not malt. Itís hoppy. Certainly one of the better GFs I can recall having.

On tap at the Portland location. Pours a clear amber color. A sweet odd glue-like nose that I always get from Sorghum. The flavor is the same; earthy and spicy sorghum, light candies. Decent. Not my thing though.

On tap at Portland store. Awful. This is one of the worst beers ever. Buttery taste. My mouth has been raped. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at the OBF í11: Shiny orange. Slightly gin-y, kombucha orange juice flavours. Thin in texture with some sour, off-flavours.

On draft at the Bend Brewpub. I am rating the "Deschutes Gluten Free NWPA #23" listed as "A hop-forward Northwest Pale Ale made of 100% gluten free ingredients: Brown Rice, Sorghum, and Dark Candy Sugar. Hopped with Nugget, Centennial, Cascade, and Citra hops for a NW gluten-free experience. Batch #23" at 6.2% with 65 IBUs. I wasnít expecting much and ordered this for a friend. It was actually rather decent -- the rice and malt could be identified, but it was quite drinkable, with decent hop bitterness, so much so that i ordered one for myself. Something different, certainly. Thanks Deschutes.
