Deschutes Gratzer Bier

Growler graciously shared by a member at the homebrew club last night. Pours a hazy gold, looks similar to a witbier, really. Frothy white head. The nose is lighter than expected though it grows as it warms. Quite meaty and bacon like with a hint of lactic tartness. Hops are subdued in the nose. On tasting, the smoke is more apparent and actually works really well with the lactic notes. Surprisingly, the yeast character is pretty subdued. Very bacony, this one, with a firm hop bitterness that rounds it out. Damn fantastic stuff that I’d love to have more of.
