Hop Henge Experimental IPA is our annual exercise in IBU escalation. An outrageous amount of Centennial and Cascade hops are added to each barrel, with a heavy dry-hop presence as well. It is dense and muscular, with a blend of crystal, pale and carastan malts creating an overall biscuity characteristic. It’s all hop, no apologies.

Aroma is real nice, tropical fruit, juicy mango and pineapple, pine, some malt, rinds, but very good. Appearance is amber golden, off white head, slight haze. Taste is a ton of tropical fruit, rinds, pine, some malt, a little booze. Mouthfeel is kind of creamy, medium to heavy with light carbonation, a nice hop bitterness in the aftertaste. Overall, the mouthfeel could be better, and there are a few flaws, but overall it is worth buying.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – The beer pours a clear golden orange color with a big billowy white head. The head fades slowly over time to leave tons of foamy lacing on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma of the brew is huge of a delicious tropical fruit aroma with tons of tangerine mixed with a strong showing of pineapple, mango and papaya. Along with these aromas are some hints of a bready smell as well as some melon and a decent grapefruit hop aroma. There is a touch of an herbal and grassy hop as well as a touch of an onion smell, which actually produce a very inviting and sweet smell overall. Taste – The taste begins with a rather bready flavor mixed with a good showing of some of the tropical fruits that were present in the nose. As the taste advances, the tropical fruits fad however with some lighter fruits of a peach, apricot and melon taking their place. While there was a modest to light showing of grapefruit hop upfront, it grows stronger as the taste moves to the middle of the flavor profile, only to fade a little bit again more toward the end. While the grapefruit fades, the overall hop is amplified due to some herbal and floral top tastes coming to the tongue. A very light vegetal onion taste comes at the very finish, which actually mixes very nicely with the blend of herbal, floral, and grapefruit, as well as the fruit, to produce a very pleasant and smooth hopped taste to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the slightly thicker and chewier side with a carbonation level that is on the lower side. For the interesting mix of fruity, vegetal, and sweet the feel is awesome and makes for a robust medium for all the rich flavors to mingle and be sensed. Overall- This is a very nice double. It has a great and interesting hop blend all combined with a great feel and an amazing aroma. This brew is somewhat different than the normal double, but very, very tasty and enjoyable.

22 oz. bottled poured into a snifter. Amber colored. White head that lingers a bit and then leaves healthy lacing. Hop dominated at first with citrus and some pine, but the sweetness of the malts come through very strongly. Also, it smells quite boozy for 9%. The taste is boozy too, but it’s not overwhelming. Again, hops for sure. Great hop flavor, but the malts are very sweet. Lots of unfermented sugars in this guy. Caramel from the malts with some vanilla, but it’s just too sweet. Strong carbonation at first, but it manages to feel creamy in the finish. Strong alcohol presence and a syrupy mouthfeel. Good, but very sweet.

Lightly clouded golden orange with a whitish-tan head. Darker citrus notes, resin, muted honey, light floral. Quite bitter, solid biscuity malt backbone. Fairly oily medium body, long lingering bitter finish. Somewhat alcoholic. Acidic. Really awesome.

Nothing small from this brew. Extreme hop aroma of cascade hops. Very recognizable. Flavor of mild crystal malts and more big buttering hops. Alcohol lightly present. Finishes of fresh hops, lie a harvest ale hop brew.
