3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20 PD4Ever (10) - Kansas City, Missouri, USA - FEB 7, 2012
Poured from bomber into tulip glass. Best by Date of 4/25/12
Aroma: Grapefruit and citrus with a tiny bit of peaches. Little bit of malt.
Appearance: Brown coppery color with 1 finger white creamy head that faded quickly. Lightly laces sides of glass.
Taste: Sweet upfront followed by a strong sour grapefruit taste and then alot of bitter in the back.
Palate: Medium body and thin texture. Lively carbonation and bitter finish.
Overall: Not the best IPA I’ve had. Probably wont buy this again. Too much bitter and not enough sweet for my tastes. 8.5% ABV is hidden well. $5.29 for 22oz bomber isnt a bad price. My first beer from Deschutes but have a couple others in my fridge to try and looking forward to them.
4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 Unibonger (156) - Mount Shasta, California, USA - FEB 6, 2012
Very clear, amber color. White head with good retention, stays thin and leaves some lacing. Very sweet, fruity aroma with minor grain notes, not too much hop aroma. Noticeable hop flavors and bitterness, slightly fruity and quite sweet. Has a slick texture, carbonation is mostly on the top of the tongue and vanishes rapidly, though a sweetness is left lingering long after.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 beerisgoodforu (644) - Nørresundby, DENMARK - FEB 5, 2012
Bottle. Pours an orange color with a beige head. The aroma is really hoppy with aromas of grapefruit, peach, orange, tangerine, floral notes and pine. The flavor follows the nose, quite bitter and hoppy with flavors of grapefruit, pine, orange, tangerine, peach, floral and resin notes with some sweet malt too. The body is medium with a dry mouthfeel. Overall a pretty tasty DIPA.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 FROTHINGSLOSH (3200) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 4, 2012
Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a bright caramel-amber color with a small white head that faded quickly. The aroma was sweet pine, resin and grapefruit. The flavor was tart, tangy and somewhat bitter with notes of pine, pineapple and lemon and undertones of floral and perfumey hops. The hop presence was complex. The finish was long with mixed hops and turned a bit sour. Fairly full bodied. Interesting.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 pressboxjoe (184) - , New Jersey, USA - FEB 4, 2012
Bottle poured into tulip. Lovely familiar and fruity aroma. Pours bright and clear, not a cloud in the amber sky. Persistent white head. Grapefruit, peach and flowers with a sweet malty aroma. Some spruce or maybe spruce sap develops over time. Instant lacing, which is always nice.
First sip is understated. Oddly, though my tongue receives it relishingly and is prepared for a full-bodied extravaganza, somehow a full sip doesn’t quite deliver. Has more in common, I would say, with Two-Hearted Ale than with Hopslam. Then the hops kick in, bitterness in the extreme, but fairly well balanced by sweetness bubbling underneath. I probably won’t pay again what I paid to get this, but I am glad I had a chance to enjoy it. Maybe someday soon Deschutes will be out this way.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 rader58 (574) - Leawood, Kansas, USA - FEB 1, 2012
22 oz bottle. Pours a clear golden to honey color. Aroma of pineapple, spruce, mango, peach, caramel, lavender. Flavor is citrus, mango, pine, caramel. I really enjoy the citrusy hops and this one has a lot of it! Nicely done.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 JK (3383) - Uptown, Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - JAN 31, 2012
A very heavy ipa. Gold color. Big hop aroma. Flavor is very sweet malt as well as citrus hops. Thick. Very rich, and from a few sips, I could tell this would leave a hop burn. An intense, and very good ipa.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Livid (49) - - JAN 29, 2012
22oz, served in a globe. Pours very clear amber, thin white head, slight lacing. Smells grassy, pine, slightly citrus. Medium full body, strong and balanced malt/hop flavors - caramel, pine, citrus rind, with a piney bitter aftertaste that lingers. The malt/hop balance is just about perfect and balances well with the alcohol content.
