COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Hop Henge Experimental IPA is our annual exercise in IBU escalation. An outrageous amount of Centennial and Cascade hops are added to each barrel, with a heavy dry-hop presence as well. It is dense and muscular, with a blend of crystal, pale and carastan malts creating an overall biscuity characteristic. It’s all hop, no apologies.

UPDATED: APR 19, 2013 What a hoppy beast! This beer is all hops. The hops are full of citrus, pine, earth and a slight bit of spicy. There is also some warmth from that high alcohol content. The only thing I don’t love about it is the oily and practically still body.

Nearly clear, dark gold pour with a 2 finger, creamy off white head with a soapy core. Nice floral and fruity citrus hops in the aroma, biscuit, bread, caramel and mineral notes. The flavor starts off sweet and a little boozy, caramel, nice fruity notes, not sure if it comes from hops or yeast or..? But it reminds me of Juicy Fruit gum. Throw in some biscuit, decent helpings of citrus, pine, spicy and herbal/earthy hops and again a bit of booziness, but not more than would be appropriate for a 10.5% IIPA. Medium body, creamy to oily entry, moderate, blanketing carbonation and a slightly drier finish with a little alcohol warmth on the finish. Pretty damn tasty, could maybe use a little more late addition/dry hopping to stand up with the alcohol, but it works just fine as is.

Purchased at Rayan’s in Chicago, IL while searching for Dayman IPA, enjoyed at my home before leaving on a big road trip. I’m happy to have purchased this, pretty great stuff. Appearance is a partly cloudy gold with an abundant, frothy white head that laces to the glass. Aroma is pretty potent with a rich hop profile, and a bready quality that is more apparent in English ales. Taste greatly masks the 10.6% ABV and is pretty delicious, goes down with a partially bitter flavor but retains some yeast qualities with a very light crispness. I’m also getting a touch of spice in this. Great great stuff!

Nice amber color with a sticky head. More malt in the aroma. Bready and sweet. Hops are barely noticeable. Body is caramel and biscuit and lacking the hop bite that should exist in a beer of this magnitude. Disappointing.

Good smooth double ipa, pours a bubbly amber with a nice head. Not a lot of aroma for a double ipa but a solid beer.

Pours a slightly hazed copper color with a modest, off white head that fades down quickly. Aroma has a strong Cent/Cascade citrus hoppines favoring cascade a bit more with a light caramel sweetness at the end. Flavor starts off with a hefty orange-lemon citrus flavor that makes a light citrus tartness with a pretty sweet pale malty kick. Body is modest but has a low amount of carbonation that provides a pretty oily texture to the brew. Beer finishes with a strong puckering of your tongue from all the hops. Overall a pretty good brew. Alcohol is there but is pretty well covered up by the huge hops presence. The hops used are perfect as they don’t become muddled in the beer when this highly hopped.

Pours golden, with small white head. Aroma is of hops, pine. Very refreshing aroma. Great flavor, lots of hops, citrus, pine, with some malt and earthy notes too. A great D.I.P.A, definitely a must try for fans of the style.

Bomber from trade with michaelinwa. Pours a clear golden orange color with a pretty big fluffy head that fades normally, leaves nice lacing too. Super fresh hop aroma, different citrus fruits and tropical fruits. I think some honey is there too. Taste is delicious. Oily fresh hops, nice solid malty backbone. Lots of oranges, grapefruit, tropical fruit, and honey. Mild sweetness and strong bitterness. Solid mouthfeel, very oily. Really good DIPA. Thanks Mike!

I tasted this beer first at the SLO Xtreme Beerfest. It pours a clear golden color with a white foamy head. It demonstrates good head retention. Lovely grapefruit and candied fruit bouquet. Grapefruit and pine flavors balanced nicely with malt. A very smooth, drinkable IPA with a slick mouthfeel that completes this excellent beer.
