Hop Henge Experimental IPA is our annual exercise in IBU escalation. An outrageous amount of Centennial and Cascade hops are added to each barrel, with a heavy dry-hop presence as well. It is dense and muscular, with a blend of crystal, pale and carastan malts creating an overall biscuity characteristic. Itís all hop, no apologies.

The most pronounced aroma is a hoppy tropical fruit fragrance offered up from a clear orange-amber pour with a white ring and no laciing. Malt notes, some biscuit, and tropical fruit yield to a rewarding bitter finish and lingering bitter aftertaste. Medium body and medium carbonation. Crisp, yet a subtle oily mouthfeel is present. Overall, thanks to the Deschutesí Druids for getting us all stoned and unhinged in such a tasty way! (No heavy lifting needed here.)

On tap at mad mex. Smells like mild hoppy perfume. Fairly clear pale yellow. Has a slight silky head. Taste is quite ipa bitter but I fail to see how this is a double IPA, does not reach into that territory. Bitterness does build in the session but it remains almost fruity fresh and almost enjoyable. Yes, not really a double. I expected something more viscous and mouth coating and this is just a APA with personality. However, since I donít like IPA I think thatís great!

650ml bottle from The Wine Emporium. Iíve been to Stone Henge and Hop Henge is way better. Big bold beer that goes down a treat.

Famous for its use of the mysterious Experimental hops, Hop Henge also boasts an impressive American hop profile. After admiring the hazy orange liquid and its modest head, youíll notice the strong aroma of citrus and pine. The Cascade and Centennial hops reveal themselves in the flavor, too. Lots of grapefruit bitterness, evergreen tangy sensations, and woodsy freshness. Yet, thereís a subtle peppery spice that I assume comes from the Experimental varieties. Itís damn good in other words. In all, Hop Henge manages to be familiar while bringing some new flavors to the palate.

Bottle. A- Citrus, piney. A- Copper color, clear liquid, off white head. T- Peppery, piney, citrus, bitter. P- Medium body, sharp texture, average carbonation, bitter finish. O- At first sip, it really hits the back of the mouth with a pepper kick. The aroma has much more citrus than the taste does. A pretty solid IPA, although I am really curious to know more about these experimental hops.

Finally Deschutes makes a decent brew, not surprising it was an experiment. They should deviate from their norm more often. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours yellowish orange with a smooth head. Aroma of fruits, citrus, pine and hops. Taste is sweet, malty and citrusy with loads of fruits and pine. Finish is sweet, citrusy and piney with some bitterness. Quite heavy DIPA.

Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate citrus, light peach, mango, and a touch of caramel. It pours a transparent golden-orange with a small white head that quickly fades to a thin film outlined by a slightly thicker ring. Thereís a good of amount of thin webbing on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with citrus and mango. The finish has light grapefruit with a touch of peach. Itís light-medium bodied with soft carbonation and mouthfeel.

Pours a clear golden color with white head. Lots of pine, pine, and flowery notes on this, some bread as well. Would have preferred more citrus and less floral notes.
