COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Hop Henge Experimental IPA is our annual exercise in IBU escalation. An outrageous amount of Centennial and Cascade hops are added to each barrel, with a heavy dry-hop presence as well. It is dense and muscular, with a blend of crystal, pale and carastan malts creating an overall biscuity characteristic. Itís all hop, no apologies.

Crushed with Carythedude and Jakebra. Orangish pour, big hop nose. Slightly thin, sweet flavor. Almost under attenuated. Citrus, melon, a bit hoppy. Not too bad.

Growler, purchased at the Deschutes Brewery/Public House in Portland. Pours a heavy orange color, nice head, good lacing. Strong hop nose with citrus, pine, alcohol...the usuals. Great palate. Bitter finish.

Bottle Pours out a copper/amber topped with a sand head. Aroma floral and citrus rings on. Tast of bitter grapfruit peel all over this one. Some nice floral but more bitter than anything. Maybe back to the Double??? I donít think this is just a IPA.

On tap at Frontdoor Boise, Pours out a very nice amber topped with a nice white head. Great hop aroma and tast. Very nice on the hop. Pretty good.

22oz bottle; initials pours as a slightly hazed red/brown amber but then gets real clear while retaining itís caramel tinted head; aromatic hop aroma and astringent flavor; peaks of dry bitter with a mellowed hop. (#45)

This is a perfect PNW IPA! Full of the serious bitterness that permeates the great PNW IPAís. Pours amber with white head. Aroma is not very present, but the flavor is aggressive. Very bitter, with floral notes to back up the bitterness. Not much base beer beyond the hoppiness, yet it conceals its alcohol well.
Earlier Rating: 5/23/2008 Total Score: 4.3
Deep copper with hints of ruby in its color. First aroma is cider. Smelled very sweet - first taste was radically different. Deep and full bitter with some sweetness on the edge where bitterness meets it on your tongue. This is what a solid IIPA should be. Definitely more double than Imperial - there isnít much in the way of florals. But thatís OK - as a solid IIPA this stacks up better.

Bottle. [thanks for the extra, after4ever]
Pours a wonderful orange amber with a fine smallish, creamy, off-white head. Fair duration, leaves fine lacings. Aroma has lots of strawberry, grapefruit and pine. Light caramel. Medium carbonation, fine dry mouthfeel. Flavour has a bit of ash, some caramel. Then lots of pine hops and general fruitiness (grapefruit, strawberry, apple, pear). Very dry throughout. Quite aggresive - and very nice!

a little buttery, but it isnít bad--just the right balance to share among all the taste buds (apple, caramel, natural spice from the hops...); overall a super smooth and tasty brew that hides the alcohol very well--great IPA that could have easily become aggressive to become an IIPA.

UPDATED: MAR 11, 2009 60th rating of this brew, Bomber I got today at K&B. Pours deep orange with a tan head. Nose is full of pine and resin with a touch of citrus. Taste is pretty damn nice, a rich semi bitter grapefruit citrus with some resin and a touch of pine. This is a damn tasty and surprisingly smooth IPA for almost 9%.

Pours a varying reddish brown to an almost golden color with a prominent head. Aroma is of hops and grapefruit with a hint of something else just out of reach. Nicely bitter with notes of fruit and just a little malt. Fruitier than other IPAs Iíve had, which is interesting.

22 oz bottle. Clear amber with a puffed beige head that leaves lacy veils. Nose is orange, tangerine, brown sugar and a touch of pineapple. Medium to full body with a tang. Soft on the tongue. Taste is cantaloupe, juniper and orange peel growing bitter. Clean and dry finish like a good martini.
