3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
This is a perfect PNW IPA! Full of the serious bitterness that permeates the great PNW IPAís. Pours amber with white head. Aroma is not very present, but the flavor is aggressive. Very bitter, with floral notes to back up the bitterness. Not much base beer beyond the hoppiness, yet it conceals its alcohol well.

Deep copper with hints of ruby in its color. First aroma is cider. Smelled very sweet - first taste was radically different. Deep and full bitter with some sweetness on the edge where bitterness meets it on your tongue. This is what a solid IIPA should be. Definitely more double than Imperial - there isnít much in the way of florals. But thatís OK - as a solid IIPA this stacks up better.

Bottle. [thanks for the extra, after4ever]
Pours a wonderful orange amber with a fine smallish, creamy, off-white head. Fair duration, leaves fine lacings. Aroma has lots of strawberry, grapefruit and pine. Light caramel. Medium carbonation, fine dry mouthfeel. Flavour has a bit of ash, some caramel. Then lots of pine hops and general fruitiness (grapefruit, strawberry, apple, pear). Very dry throughout. Quite aggresive - and very nice!

a little buttery, but it isnít bad--just the right balance to share among all the taste buds (apple, caramel, natural spice from the hops...); overall a super smooth and tasty brew that hides the alcohol very well--great IPA that could have easily become aggressive to become an IIPA.

UPDATED: MAR 11, 2009 60th rating of this brew, Bomber I got today at K&B. Pours deep orange with a tan head. Nose is full of pine and resin with a touch of citrus. Taste is pretty damn nice, a rich semi bitter grapefruit citrus with some resin and a touch of pine. This is a damn tasty and surprisingly smooth IPA for almost 9%.

Pours a varying reddish brown to an almost golden color with a prominent head. Aroma is of hops and grapefruit with a hint of something else just out of reach. Nicely bitter with notes of fruit and just a little malt. Fruitier than other IPAs Iíve had, which is interesting.

22 oz bottle. Clear amber with a puffed beige head that leaves lacy veils. Nose is orange, tangerine, brown sugar and a touch of pineapple. Medium to full body with a tang. Soft on the tongue. Taste is cantaloupe, juniper and orange peel growing bitter. Clean and dry finish like a good martini.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours very dark for an IPA - almost reddish orange - with a thick, dense head. Aroma makes it seem like this one offsets the hops more with ripe fruit than with malts. Bitter, herbal hops are certainly predominant. Funky flavor! Resiny, bitter hops are layered over caramel malts and a mild, dilute apple juice. Mouthfeel is great - just a bit of a bite, but nice and thick. Leave it to Deschutes to keep playing around with a good recipe - Iím not sure this is better than last yearís Hop Henge IIPA, but this is good stuff, for sure. Great given its non-imperial status.

Pours a clear amber with a small head. Aroma is subtle - not a lot there, which is surprising for an IIPA - sweet malts and a bit of the hops (far less than I know are in there). Piney, resiney hops dominate the flavor, with some light citrus notes and a good amount of malts to balance. Itís definitely sticky, leaving your mouth well-coated. This is a good beer, but I find myself asking "whereís the imperial?" It has a great flavor (balance is particularly impressive), but itís too subtle. I want it to have a bigger presence for an IIPA.

Bottle from BevMo. One hell of an IPA. Dark amber color with a foamy cream colored head. Aroma is fresh hops and sweet malt. Flavor is more of the same, hops are piney and taste really fresh and crisp. Nice palate, fairly full for the style and a little sticky/syrupy.

Batch #2. The foam clings to the glass and covers the top of the beer. The hoppy flavor is complex and pleasant
