3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: JAN 10, 2012 Bottle… mgumby10’s & hopscotch’s WtFFfFDotF Throwdown … Clear burnt orange ale with a mid-sized, creamy, off-white head. Fantastic, small, tight retention. Caramel, citric, earthy aroma – grapefruit, biscuit, black tea and pine. Full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and laid-back carbonation. Big caramel and biscuit malt backbone lends plenty of support to the nice, earthy, hop bitterness. Raspy, moderately bitter, dry finish.

Bottle...O-Town Throwdown... Clear amber ale with a mid-sized, frothy, off-white head. Excellent retention. The aroma delivers notes of black tea, caramel, cotton candy, tropical fruit and mild grapefruit. The flavor is sweet toffee balanced decently by bitter notes of black tea and grapefruit rind. Full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and modest carbonation. Lengthy, bittersweet finish. Thanks to Crosling for sending the bottle our way!

Bottle @ home. Copper orange appearance with a small cream colored head. Quite potent piney, earthy, organic hoppy nose. Pretty bitter, orange/grapefruit citrusy, piney, earthy hoppy, sweet pale malty flavor. It’s not blowing me away but it’s an enjoyable beer.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
22oz bottle. Poured a medium and very slightly hazy amber color with a larger sized off white head. Some lacing was left on the glass as the head diminished. Aromas of fruitiness, citrus, floral, caramel, and pine. Tastes of pine, citrus, lighter fruitiness (vs. the aromas), floral, and caramel. The floralness came out more and more as I drank and enjoyed this one. I was pleasantly surprised by this one.

22oz bottle share courtesy of TomDecapolis. Poured a medium amber color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of orange peels, some caramel, citrus, and a little earthy. Tastes of citrus, pine, and caramel. Medium bitter with only a trace of a malt balance. Struck me to be more of an IPA vs. an IIPA.

Golden yellow, 3 months past expiration but only received it in last few months. Carbonation bubbles. Almost a half inch of white foam bubbly head. Lacey, hop aromas are hard to distinguish. Taste held together, initially good hoppiness, palate filler not a shredder. Creamy above average mouthfeel.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tap at City Beer Store in San Francisco. Sort of hard to know which Hop Henge to rate this under but we had the new batch, which I’m pretty positive was 9% and this is the only version listed on Deschutes’ website.
Poured a clear orange to amber with a medium white head leaving some nice sticky lace. Nose is full of orange candies, fresh citrus, and simple syrup. Taste is dry, nutty bitter, sweet syrup, candied citrus, maple, nutty bitter. Something like puppy breath comes into the flavor... As it warms, the sticky sweet body becomes too much and you are overloaded with grenadine and syrupy sweetness.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sample at Tenaya Creek in Las Vegas. The beer pours a clear orange-amber color with a wispy white head that diminishes quickly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Earthy malt, fruit and hops in the nose. Medium-bodied and moderately bitter with fresh fruity hops, malt and caramel flavors. The finish is hoppy with lingering citrus and earthy malt aftertaste. Above average overall.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: JUN 21, 2013 Ridiculously fresh, supple, gooey, dripping, glistening pineapple and
pear flavored hop oils. Candied cherries and sugared, gummy pineapple
slices tickle the front of the tongue, while a soft oiliness and a
chewy richness of body overtakes the palate. Sharpness builds over
the middle, finishing with a snappy but rounded bite on the back of
the throat. Just an insane IPA. Everything I love in IPA - clean,
oily, extremely fresh, fullness from proper protein breakdown during
mashing. Last bottle I had was weird :/
