truegen (164), Puyallup, Washington, USA Apr 25, 2008 22 oz. bomber from 99 Bottles in Federal Way. Active, foamy pour leaves layers of lace. Amber in color, with just a touch of haze. Nose is a sweet pine and citrus mix, strong, but not overpowering. Flavor is malty for an IPA, but perhaps not for an IIPA. In this case, I felt that the malts kind of pushed some of the hop bitterness aside. Even so, the hops are present all along the tongue, and do leave a lasting impression. The mouthfeel is definitely thick and resinous. Those looking for a hop-monster might be disappointed, but I liked this beer quite a bit cstuartj (305), Washington, USA Apr 24, 2008 Pours bright red/orange yellow with a nice pillowy white head. laces well while drinking. Nose is hops, pine, flowery/grass, bitter. Attack is piney hops and biter, very light on the tongue, just a hint of alcohol and malt, finish is bitter and dry. very nice IPA! Dogbrick (2807), Columbus, Ohio, USA Apr 20, 2008 Sample at Tenaya Creek in Las Vegas. The beer pours a clear orange-amber color with a wispy white head that diminishes quickly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Earthy malt, fruit and hops in the nose. Medium-bodied and moderately bitter with fresh fruity hops, malt and caramel flavors. The finish is hoppy with lingering citrus and earthy malt aftertaste. Above average overall. scrizzz (1246), kirkland, Washington, USA Apr 19, 2008 Updated: Jan 29, 2009Updated for the new Experimental version: Clear toffee, spongy white sticky head, very good lacing. concentrated oily hop aroma. Juicy grapefruit and ripe orange character, started sharply bitter but soon became clean and quenching. I’d like to know more about what makes this so experimental.
fresh oily piney hop aroma, dark red/amber. great hop sting with a heavy full malt base. HughConway (364), Alabama, USA Apr 18, 2008 Bottle. Pours amber with white laced head. Nice clear hop aroma. Taste is some malt and bitter, hides the alcohol. Not much Imperial about this more an IPA with an extra % abv. stetzel (22), portland, Oregon, USA Apr 16, 2008 i don’t know why i keep trying deschutes.they are very lack luster.everything they do anymore taste the same.if this beer would have come out ten years ago,i probally would have loved it!??!! glkaiser (1150), Seattle, Washington, USA Apr 15, 2008 22oz bottle. Clear, dark amber with good head. Big hops, but balanced well. Man, the pine hops keep coming in the taste and the bitterness really sticks around. Very bright hops. I love that it isn’t even close to being sticky, syrupy malt. Comes off as light biscuit. This is more like a true double hop IPA vs. an almost hoppy barleywine, like many imperial ipas these days. beerinmarch (2781), Alabama, USA Apr 13, 2008 On tap at the PDX Green Dragon. Pours dark mohogany/amber with a soft light beige head. Big floral hop nose, fresh and citrusy. Hops were floral through the flavor as well, very well built beer, not overwhelming on the bitterness, but a beautiful balance of malts and fresh hops.
