Ramenen (453), San Salvador, El Salvador Aug 8, 2008 Thanks to Juancho. Drank it in Panajachel, Guatemala. Pours nice golden, hazy color with a good white head. Aromas of pine and grass. Medium bodied, well balanced between malts and hops, nice complexity in the hop flavor, different levels of flavors along your mouth. decaturstevo (1971), decatur, Tennessee, USA Aug 7, 2008 Copper pour with white head and lace. Centennial hops and malt dominate (called out by jcwattsrugger). Very malty with medium hop finish. Slightly thin but good carb. A very solid drinker lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA Jul 31, 2008 Bottle in trade from ditmier. Thanks!
Pours a nice semi hazed amber with big beige head. Smell is fruity and not overly hoppy and a bit mild but nice. Taste is bitter fruit, tea and alcohol. Not bad, but not a good DIPA either. Pretty uninteresting flavors and too damn alcoholic to be very enjoyable. Mustered down about 1/3 of the bottle. MaltOMeal (642), Land of Sugar, Texas, USA Jul 29, 2008 bomber thanks to dunk. Pours a dark amber with an off-white head. Nose is of citrus and pine. Taste is of caramel malt, citrus and pine. Mouthfeel is medium with both sweet taste with carbonation and bitter finish. jcdsmack (88), Henderson, Nevada, USA Jul 26, 2008 Sweet caramel flavor nice hop aroma, very fragrant ctrus, great deep orange color thin white head but very nice retention Not as bitter as I expected with a name like hop henge but the bitterness lingers on the tongue helping to carry each sip over into the next and balance out the biscuity sweetness well crafted wonderfuly balanced. marcus (1821), Sacramento, California, USA Jul 25, 2008 This amber ale poured with a thin beige head and a citrus aroma. The flavor is candied hops with a grapefruit finish. A very tasty brew. elihapa (1033), Honolulu, California, USA Jul 18, 2008 Deschutes Hop Henge 7/17/08 (bomber. Pours a light orange-gold with a medium cream head. Aroma of intense hops and citrus (tangerine, grapefruit). Palate was full-bodied, and flavor starts out bitter and full of robust hops and marbled malt. Good, up ‘til that point! What follows – and I assume my bottle was pretty average – left a poor impression of this beer in my mouth. The big flavors began to cross and tangle with an inescapable and not entirely welcome boozy and sweet touch. Pretty soon, the creamy hop syrup I had enjoyed earlier had been seriously tainted by the flavor of alchohol. By the time I got done with a glass of this, I could not separate the different flavors present in this beer. Strange. I might still recommend this, though, for the aroma, initial flavor, and boldness. Schultsc (478), Henderson, Nevada, USA Jul 16, 2008 Sampled both on top and subsequently from the bottle in Eugene, OR--rating is from the bottle. Medium-dark orange-amber color with a thin, fine, light tan head. Aroma of light lemony hops with subtle banana and spice with bottom notes of caramelized orange. Flavor consists of some grainy maltiness with dark, dense hop bitterness, and a little spiciness anlong with alcohol. Quite subdued and not at all what I was expecting froma double IPA from Deschutes. The body is slightly out of balance in terms of malt, alcohol, and hops dimensions. Somewhat underwhelming.
