Commercial Description:
Our latest Bond Street Series brew, Hop Henge, got bumped up to Imperial status this year. With a few more IBU’s than last year’s version, this IPA has a monumental amount of hops coming in just under the century mark for IBU’s. Two and one half pounds of Centennial, Cascade, and Northern Brewer hops are added, per beer barrel, and another half pound is used in the dry hopping process giving Hop Henge a whopping 95 IBU rate. A hearty malt bill, consisting of Crystal, Pale and Carastan malts, creates a biscuity note while building a dense base supporting the mammoth hop presence.

Sample at Tenaya Creek in Las Vegas. The beer pours a clear orange-amber color with a wispy white head that diminishes quickly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Earthy malt, fruit and hops in the nose. Medium-bodied and moderately bitter with fresh fruity hops, malt and caramel flavors. The finish is hoppy with lingering citrus and earthy malt aftertaste. Above average overall.

This amber ale poured with a thin beige head and a citrus aroma. The flavor is candied hops with a grapefruit finish. A very tasty brew.

Deschutes Hop Henge 7/17/08 (bomber. Pours a light orange-gold with a medium cream head. Aroma of intense hops and citrus (tangerine, grapefruit). Palate was full-bodied, and flavor starts out bitter and full of robust hops and marbled malt. Good, up ‘til that point! What follows – and I assume my bottle was pretty average – left a poor impression of this beer in my mouth. The big flavors began to cross and tangle with an inescapable and not entirely welcome boozy and sweet touch. Pretty soon, the creamy hop syrup I had enjoyed earlier had been seriously tainted by the flavor of alchohol. By the time I got done with a glass of this, I could not separate the different flavors present in this beer. Strange. I might still recommend this, though, for the aroma, initial flavor, and boldness.

Sampled both on top and subsequently from the bottle in Eugene, OR--rating is from the bottle. Medium-dark orange-amber color with a thin, fine, light tan head. Aroma of light lemony hops with subtle banana and spice with bottom notes of caramelized orange. Flavor consists of some grainy maltiness with dark, dense hop bitterness, and a little spiciness anlong with alcohol. Quite subdued and not at all what I was expecting froma double IPA from Deschutes. The body is slightly out of balance in terms of malt, alcohol, and hops dimensions. Somewhat underwhelming.

Bottle. Pours a clean copper bronze, with a filmy white lacing and frothy white head. Big hops in the nose, some spices, vanilla, pine. Creamy. Big balance of hops and malts in the flavor. Spicy, vanilla flavors. Brown sugar. Definitely heavy on the malts, but still balanced. Full-bodied and very drinkable.

I had a bomber the other night and lost my tasting notes, I do remember enjoying it but not being blown away
