COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Who knows what inspired the ancients to build Stonehenge--or what inspired us to build Hop Henge in its likeness. But build it we did, out of wrapped bales of whole-flower hops out on the brewery lawn. Like the rest of the Bond Street Series, Hop Henge highlights the creativity and curiousity of our brewers. Bolder than its English ancestors, with huge hops and a bitter finish, this IPA is no wallflower.

NOTE: This is the original version. In 2007 it was bumped up to an IIPA. See that entry here.

From a bomber. Pours light orange with nice white head. Heavy pine and caramel aroma. Nice orange pine hop flavor up backed with a sweet malt backbone. I like it a lot. After trying some other deschutes offerings that I thought were just ok, this was a pleasant surprise.

On tap at the Portland brewery. Clean taste and good head. Great hop taste and nice mouthfeel. Close in effort to hopslam and a great ipa. 95 ibu's!!! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a hazy slightly orange auburn. Very nice, dense offwhite head with real staying power. Aroma is very carmelish and lots of piney hops. Sweet malt flavors, but subdued. Quite strong bittering with grapefruit pith notes. Full heavy mouth feel and long, bitter aftertaste

Clear orangey amber hue. Spicy orange aroma. Fruity hop sweetness and spice on the palate, lightly breast, mild grapefruit on the finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured a nice golden color with a short head. Had a very lingering bitterness that I did not care for. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

AMAZING aroma, crazy hops. First it hits you as floral and citrus-y, but then it reveals itself to have tremendous complexity and an IPA bitter finish. Keeps you guessing with every sip. Kind of love this beer.

On tap @ Darby’s. Clear, pale copper topped with a dense white cap that laces like a manic grandmother on a fantastic doily voyage. Cap eventually reduces to a thin coat with thick roping and central volcanic spotting that lingers right through. Aroma is muted, light citrus and hops. Taste is piney, bright citrus, and lightly caramelized sugar. This is a great, refreshing ipa without sacrifice of style compared to more menacing foe.

[old rating] Bottle... Poured an amber tone with a frothy white head that stayed throughout the brew. Foamy palate with a syrupy base. Sweet caramel malt grains and hop bitterness that were really well balanced. Other earthy, citrus fruit notes too. A really nice IPA.

Thick, dank pine; pitch-like aroma. Crystal clear light caramel color with short white head. A tongue drying acidity/bitterness strikes first with alcohol warmth on the finish. Hops blend in well. Thin but boozy beer. More enjoyable to the nose than the palate but still good.
