Commercial Description:
Who knows what inspired the ancients to build Stonehenge--or what inspired us to build Hop Henge in its likeness. But build it we did, out of wrapped bales of whole-flower hops out on the brewery lawn. Like the rest of the Bond Street Series, Hop Henge highlights the creativity and curiousity of our brewers. Bolder than its English ancestors, with huge hops and a bitter finish, this IPA is no wallflower.

NOTE: This is the original version. In 2007 it was bumped up to an IIPA. See that entry here.

orange brown color nice off white head w/ good lacing. Big hop aroma grass & citrus lots of carmel very well blended. Full lightly oily lightly creamy palate. Flavor is a dryly bitter grass hop a light carmel balances the finish. Finishes very dry. But very good.

Bottle and served in a standard pint glass: Poured a hazed coppery hue with a large frothy head and left outstanding lace on the glassware.
The aroma has both a fresh clean PNW hops and an aromatic European hop profile. Also detected a background of bready amlt and wildflower yeast esters.
The taste has a nice sharp hop bitterness with equal citric accents but not overpowering or unbalanced. A light biscuity malt and dry yeast undertones led to the peppery and astrengent finish.
The mouth feel is crisp at first with a dry metallic finish.
A solid IPA, quite tasty and refreshing as should be the case with the style. Thanks Steve for the bottle.

Great orange color with big alive creamy head. Nose of citrus and hints of pine. Flavor of orange with bit of peach thrown in. Malt gives it a little sweetness to blend the two very well. Great creamy texture, finish is clean.

An orangish color with little head and a hoppy nose. The hops continue to the taste and lingers.

Sample at Indy tasting Dick’s BBQ 3/31/06 - Aroma is a good mix of hops and malt, a little soapy. Pours orange with small head and decent lacing. Flavor is a bit one dimensional with hops. Didn’t get the malt balance as in the aroma. Palate is tart. Alright but nothing special ipa wise.

RE-RATE - 22oz - thanks stoutlover72 - gets an extra point in the overall for being a well balanced and tasty IPA. Aroma is citrus hops and caramel malts, still a little soapy. Nice medium head with a full pour. Flavor matches aroma with more muddy hops, a little waxy. Palate is sticky and tart. Tasty.

Poured a hazy deep amber color with a large long lasting off white head. Hoppy aroma but plenty of caramel malt as well. Hops are citrus, piney and earthy. Malty flavor to start. Nice citrus middle and a very long big bitter finish. Thins out a bit on the finish. Otherwise it is terrfic.

Bottled. Poured a hazy, lighter caramel with a medium off-white head and nice lacing. Huge pine forest aroma with just about as much juicy citrus... though not the dominant points, toffee and caramel kept the big hops in check. Flavor was hop-driven and mostly pine.. with citrus re-emerging at the finish. Overall bitterness was respectable, but felt a tad rough around the edges and not quite in balance. Very good IPA that I would gladly drink again!

Bottle - Clear copper with a nice off-white head. Aroma is laoded with grapefruit. Hops all over the place in the flavor. Citrus with some malt tying things up at the end. Quite enjoyable.
