COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Part of the Bond Street Series. This Fresh Hop Pale Ale is all about celebrating the hop harvest in the fall. Fresh picked hops have to be added to the brew immediately and in abundance. Roughly 270 pounds of Crystal hops from Doug Weathers' farm outside Salem, Oregon will be added to the 50 barrel batch in addition to some dry kilned whole flower hops. That adds up to approximately 5.5 pounds of hops per barrel brewed.

2012 release, poured from a 12 oz. bottle. Copper beer with just slightly off-white head that dissipates quickly but leaves some lacing. Appearance promises a balanced beer with full flavor for its modest alcohol content. Aroma is a bit subdued but generally malty - caramel and slight toffee. Flavor is similar, but fresh hops come through in the finish. Not much hop flavor to speak of, but the maltiness is tasty and complemented well by the fresh hop spiciness in the finish. An excellent fall beer if you’re looking for some fresh hop taste that is fully balanced with malt.

Bottle. Pours a copper color with a firm head that fades to nice lacing. Aroma of hops, malt and bit of caramel. Taste of citrus, malt and caramel sweetness. Solid bitterness and a dry finish. Medium body, crisp with a robust feel. Enjoyable beer with a West Coast flair.

HOPPY. Very hoppy. Tons of just delicious fresh citrusy bright hopes. Incredible. Is it a Pale Ale or an IPA? Doesn’t even matter here. It’s just a brilliantly hoppy beer. The hops are all that matters and they are just in your face. The taste is just juicy citrusy fresh hops. Exactly what they say it is. Definitely my favorite among these fresh hop beers that come out around this time. Definitely try this one. Cheers!

Pours a cloudy dark amber with a fine off white head. Nose is subdued but nice. I get some mango, grapefruit zest, a little dank caramel. Flavor is similarly restrained, but shows impeccable balance. I get some really juicy mango and guava flavors on the attack, followed by some lime and grapefruit on the mid palate, along with some candy orange. The finish is long and evolves. It starts bitter with a grapefruit peel flavor, but then mellows into a slightly toasty, slightly spicy biscuity flavor. The aroma though nice, isn’t really a smack in the face. However the flavor is really wonderful, nuanced, balanced and complex. Slightly syrupy body which I wouldn’t have expected for a 5.5% beer. Really worth drinking.

Deschutes beers are hit or miss with me. This one was a miss. Great aroma and appearance, but lacks body and really tasted watered-down. Surprised by the high score as this one really did not do it for me as far as pale ales go.

Tap at lucky 13. Light copper with small white head and decent lacing. Subtle aroma for the style. Smooth for an ipa. Hop and floral bitterness not as pronounced as expected. Nice and mellow.

Bottle to pint. Tropical juiciness dominate both aroma and flavor. Pours a clear golden-amber with off white head. Could use more malt backing. Can squeeze the citric, tropical juice out of this. Too one-sided. Low bitterness.

Now this is something. I do not think I’ve had a beer w/ a strong peach ring candy aroma other than random garbage w/ apricot extract added. The nose on this is just huge and super fruity. It was almost shocking at first but settles in nicely. I am not normally one to attribute peachy flavors to crystal hops but that’s what they have in this so there you have it. This is overall quite a nice beer that pours a slightly hazed orange w/ tons of lace left behind as its fine bubbled white head slowly dissipates. This is farily full bodied and a little bit sweet. It seems to have picked up a slight astringent note from dry hopping which along w/ some lemon notes give the impression of sweetened iced tea. It finishes w/ a lingering honey note and a solid bit of bitterness. This is a really nice beer and probably one of the best hop-centric bres I’ve had from the brewery.

2014 bottle. Pours a hazy copper with a nice off-white head. Great lacing. Aroma is a nice sweet malt with pine. Taste is the same with some citrus and a nice bitterness that cuts through the sweetness and lingers on the tongue just enough. Medium mouthfeel. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a clear amber with a thick off white head. Aroma is slightly metallic with hints of malt and bitter hops. Leaves good lacing in the glass. Medium carbonation in the mouth with notes of malt, caramel and earthiness. Has a fair amount of hoppy bitterness on the back end. This is a pretty good APA.
