This strong pale is brewed in traditional Northwest-style, you’ll be happy to know! The hops are floral and pronounced (Horizon, Cascade, Crystal) while the malt bill is made up of two types of crystal malt and two types of wheat. This produces a well hopped, balanced beer with malty smoothness. IBU’s: 75.
Note: Revived at the Bend brewpub in 2009 after 4 years.

Draught at the Deschutes Brewery, Bend, OR.
Cloudy amber colour with a small off-white head. Piney and fruity hops, mild bitterness and some malty sweetness in the aroma. Sweet soapy fruity hops and mild bitterness in the flavour. Balanced and easy.

less inspired than hophenge, or even hop trip. the casking mellows things a bit too much for me, especially in an ipa...makes it more complex, but not aromatic enough. not bad though."

Rating backlog, from Sept 2011. Poured an amber color with a whitish head. Aroma was solid, with citrus, nuts and caramel. Flavor was about the same in quality and components.

Draught at the Deschutes Brewery & Public House in Bend, OR. Fruity, sugary, mildly hoppy nose, along with a slightly sour tang.. Medium copper color. Caramel and raisins in initial / absolutely wonderful balance in mid palate / more caramel and hop cream pie in finish. Very good stuff. This is in Deschutes’ best style line -- kind of an amped-up big brother to Inversion. Also had it on cask, and that version had a mild blue cheese initial flavor but overall was a bit milder and gentler and not quite as full bodied as the regular.

Several 6 oz drafts at the Hats off to Homebrewers event held at Amigoni Winery in Kansas City, Missouri. The pour is a mostly clear orange copper brown, with a nicely formed off white head. The aroma is nicely balanced between toasty nutty malt and a resin, citrus fruit hop character. The taste follows the nose, and may even lean a bit more towards the malt character. The toast of the malt plays really nicely with the resinous hops. The palate is medium bodied, touch lower carbonation, resin leads to a bitter dry finish. Nice beer, really glad they brought this out with them. Cheers to Deshutes and Boulevard for a great event.

Tap @ Deschutes Bend... Poured clear, amber with a lacey white head. Mild soapy aroma. Good hop flavor, not too bitter. Caramel malt sweetness. Earthy, citrus hops. Short finish.

On draught at the Bend brew pub. Pours clear orange. One sip yields delicious citrus, grapefruit, and resin, with the traditional Deschutes malt backbone of tea leaves. Yum. Long bitter finish. Crisp and easy to drink for a brew with this many IBUs. My favorite of all the IPAs I tasted on this trip. This would make a great session IPA.

Draught at the Bend brewpub. Medium amber with a lacey head. Lots of hops in the aroma with juicy tangerine and grapefruit, and some sticky dank as well. Bitter and resiny in the finish with some caramel flavor, but more just really hoppy with a big grapefruit and dank flavor. Medium bodied with somewhat coarse carbonation. Supposedly this was brewed with only wheat and crystal malt (not sure if i trust the bartender though) but you could have fooled me. I didn’t really get any wheat, but that could be due to all those hops...

Copper bronze, good lasting off white head disipated quickly. Enticing spicy raw hop resin and caramel nose with some alcohol apparent, Big sweet peppery mouthfull of caramel, malt and spicy hops. Some traces of toasted bread.. Alcoholic finish with the spicy malt notes well balanced by the solid hop bitterness. Absolutely loved the style of this brew
