Commercial Description:
After months of experimentation, energy and obsession, Deschutes Brewery’s brewers have triumphed once again with their newest creation - Inversion IPA. Inversion’s trio of American hops delivers an over-the-top nose with hints of orange and grapefruit. Inversion is then dry-hopped for seven days resulting in an added hoppy kick. To balance the hop character of Inversion, Deschutes’ brewers used crystal and caraston malts that weave throughout the beer providing soft, complex caramel flavors. Inversion IPA is smooth and delicious. Just like clear days up on the mountain, Inversion IPA will deliver a path to higher ground. Inversion will be available year-round starting in early April on draft and in 6-packs. Inversion IPA is a phenomenal NW-style IPA, beckoning all beer drinkers and enticing IPA lovers to invert their world and find clarity above the routine of the everyday. Alc. By Vol. 6.8% IBUs 75

12 oz bottle Dark amber color, with almost no head. A murky brown glass of beer. Smell is sharp, with sugar and hops. Caramel? Tingly with hoppy bitterness. Mello and crisp lingering flavor in the mouth. Not the big sweet explosion at all. Not too sticky in the back. The head on my beer seems like the previous reviewer had a completely different brew. My glass is clean. Fine beer, but not special IMO.

A nice surprise. Overall an excellent IPA and one of my favorite Oregon beers. Pours a nice amber color with a thick, off-white head. Lots of caramel and hops. Mouthfeel is very creamy and smooth. Fantastic lacing: was able to get the entire glass coated in one continuous white fluff like a perfect pint of Guinness. Hops is of course the dominating taste but this IPA is also quite sweet from the crystal malts. Orange and grapefruit...I’m missing those flavors.

12 oz. bottle courtesy of riversideAK. Pours a clear copper colo with a medium sized off white head that leaves nice lacing. The aroma is moderately sweet grapefruit citrus with some light piney hops as well. The flavor has a great deal of hop presence. Grapefruit and pine dominate in the mouth. What sweetness there might be is quickly overtaken with bitterness. There is not much malt backbone to speak of. Medium bodied, on the dry side, not especially complex. Its not that this is bad, just one dimensional.

[1660-20080904] 12floz bottle. Malty caramel and mild tree bark aroma. Hazy, amber brown body with quick light tan bubbles. Super bitter malt flavour with caramelized tree bark notes. Bitter medium body. Striking bitterness.

Pours dark orange with a yellowish head. Poured with heavy carbonation. Aroma is of hops, slight citrus hints, and malt. The carbonation leaves the beer with a very creamy mouthfeel. Taste is of malts and banana, balanced by bitter hops. The sharp bitterness lingers on long after each sip.
