Commercial Description:
After months of experimentation, energy and obsession, Deschutes Brewery’s brewers have triumphed once again with their newest creation - Inversion IPA. Inversion’s trio of American hops delivers an over-the-top nose with hints of orange and grapefruit. Inversion is then dry-hopped for seven days resulting in an added hoppy kick. To balance the hop character of Inversion, Deschutes’ brewers used crystal and caraston malts that weave throughout the beer providing soft, complex caramel flavors. Inversion IPA is smooth and delicious. Just like clear days up on the mountain, Inversion IPA will deliver a path to higher ground. Inversion will be available year-round starting in early April on draft and in 6-packs. Inversion IPA is a phenomenal NW-style IPA, beckoning all beer drinkers and enticing IPA lovers to invert their world and find clarity above the routine of the everyday. Alc. By Vol. 6.8% IBUs 75

Unusual, and off balance. The malts don’t work for me. There’s an astringent, charcoal like bitterness that I can’t stand.

Amber beer with an off-white head. Aroma is faint grapefruit. Flavor is roasted malt and grapefruit bitterness. Finish is bitter. Good IPA.

Bottle from BSF Bar, GBBF ’08. Amber with a small off white head. Aroma was initially grapefruit, later revealing sweet malts. Piney hop and malt taste in which creamy, buttery sweetness blends with sharp bitterness. Beautiful.

Good. Pretty strong caramel malt presence. Pretty bitter citrus hop flavor with a lingering bitter finish. Some alcohol taste comes through. Lightly carbonated and very drinkable. Thick mouthfeel for an IPA.

Picture perfect salmon-tinged amber pint with ample tan head of foam and fluff. Enjoyable citrusy and fruit punch burst in the nostrils along with some mild hop resin. Starts easy on the palate, but then raw, leafy hop notes and moderate to strong bitterness takes the stage. Resilient btter-sour twang on the back of the palate. I would conjecture there is a healthy dose of Chinook hops in this one.

Bottle. Pours clear amber with a nice frothy head and good lacing. Aroma is floral with citrus and hops, and inviting. Palate is light to medium with little carbonation. Hops and floral notes shine through in the flavor with some noticeable malt. Clear and clean flavors finish with lingering medium bitter hops. This is an enjoyable and refreshing beer.

Amber with faint white head. Citrus floral aroma. Hop flavor is citrus and pine with slight malt undertone.
