Commercial Description:
After months of experimentation, energy and obsession, Deschutes Brewery’s brewers have triumphed once again with their newest creation - Inversion IPA. Inversion’s trio of American hops delivers an over-the-top nose with hints of orange and grapefruit. Inversion is then dry-hopped for seven days resulting in an added hoppy kick. To balance the hop character of Inversion, Deschutes’ brewers used crystal and caraston malts that weave throughout the beer providing soft, complex caramel flavors. Inversion IPA is smooth and delicious. Just like clear days up on the mountain, Inversion IPA will deliver a path to higher ground. Inversion will be available year-round starting in early April on draft and in 6-packs. Inversion IPA is a phenomenal NW-style IPA, beckoning all beer drinkers and enticing IPA lovers to invert their world and find clarity above the routine of the everyday. Alc. By Vol. 6.8% IBUs 75

Poured from tap a light brown with large off-white head. Aroma was very light for an IPA with more of an aged toasted hop profile than a floral citrusy pine one. Flavor was very dry with some malts and caramel, bitter toasted floral hops, and very light citrus. Palate is quite bitter start to finish. Wasn’t my cup of tea. I was wanting to like it but had to admit I would prefer something different.

From a bottle at the Beer Fest in Davis, CA. Very bitter beer with flavors of citrus, especially grapefuit. Hits the palate pretty hard, but then smooths out toward the aftertaste. I was very impressed with the total package.

On tap. The pour was an attractive copper and ruby swirl. The head was a thick, two-finger off-white mass that produced very good, sheetlike lacing. The aroma was a fairly well balanced combo of caramel malts against some light floral and citrus hops. The flavor followed suit. In what’s becoming somewhat of a rarity in the IPA field, the malty sweetness kept the hops from crushing everything in its wake. Thin to medium in body with a nice finish. Enjoyable.

I liked this IPA. Not as piney as other IPAs; a bit sweet and caramel. We kicked back in the hotel room after the day was done, and had a few.

I think this stuff is better in the bottle than on tap, the tap version seemed flat and thin in the body> this is the rate for the bottled version...

Hazy amber with a small off white head. Aroma seems a bit Belgian in character, a fair bit of spicy yeast character, lots of piney hops, vanilla and dark candy sugar. Full, bitter body, perhaps a bit heavy in the carbonation but otherwise the mouthful suits the style really well. Flavour carries more belgian spicy phenols, piney hops and some subtle vanilla and woody notes. Finish is hoppy and bitter, with the malt body fading quite fast. Really liked the different yeast characteristics... they really separate this from other american IPA’s I’ve tried.

bottle. Pours a nice light orange-amber with a small cream head. Head of grapefruit, citrus, pine, and little malt character. Medium-light body, with a crisp dry finish. Flavor is strong of sour grapefruit, lemon, and light caramel. Finishes with citrus sour notes. I have to say, to this date I have not tried an IPA so unabashedly loaded with tart citrus fruit flavor. I have to say that I like it. The carbonation may be a tad intense, surely intended to complement (mask?) some of the more bitter flavors. A bold IPA with a punchy flavor.) 3.7.

Pours coppery with a very hoppy aroma. Flavor is citrus hops and malt. Nicely balanced, not overpowering.
