Commercial Description:
After months of experimentation, energy and obsession, Deschutes Brewery’s brewers have triumphed once again with their newest creation - Inversion IPA. Inversion’s trio of American hops delivers an over-the-top nose with hints of orange and grapefruit. Inversion is then dry-hopped for seven days resulting in an added hoppy kick. To balance the hop character of Inversion, Deschutes’ brewers used crystal and caraston malts that weave throughout the beer providing soft, complex caramel flavors. Inversion IPA is smooth and delicious. Just like clear days up on the mountain, Inversion IPA will deliver a path to higher ground. Inversion will be available year-round starting in early April on draft and in 6-packs. Inversion IPA is a phenomenal NW-style IPA, beckoning all beer drinkers and enticing IPA lovers to invert their world and find clarity above the routine of the everyday. Alc. By Vol. 6.8% IBUs 75

Citrus and pine dominate the nose with hints of honey malts. Pours light amber or a darker blond. Hoppy but slightly sweet, with hints of maple. It finishes dry, not bad!

Sampled at West Coast Brew Fest ’08 ~ Pours a light golden colour with creamy with lasting head. ~Nice scent of fresh grassy hops. ~Strong bitter hop taste with light sweetness. ~ This is a good IPA. Easy to drink. Could use some more.

On tap at West Coast Brewfest. This amber ale poured wth a decent beige head. It’s very hoppy, but otherwise a rather standard brew.

Clear amber with a wispy 1" head. Nice spicy hop, yeasty aroma. Medium body. A lightly sweet malt flavor is quickly ushered out by a spicy hop bitterness. A solidly balanced, easy drinking pale ale here.

Pours a clear copper with a foamy off-white head that lasts a while. Lots of citrus in the aroma, most notably grapefruit. Malty on first taste, and then the hops come through. A good, not overdone, IPA.

Bright amber, leaning toward orange, big vanilla head. Sweet caramel malt with a load of fruity hop character (tangerine, lychee), and a long bitter finish. Deeeelish!

Thanks to FlacoAlto for the bottle (12oz). Clear orange color with a medium head. Has a best by date of 6/26/08, and if it hadn’t been for that fact, I would have thought it was a little old. The caramel outshines everything here. I don’t get any of the citrus alluded to in the Commercial Description. Just a little floral hops with a huge bitter finish.
