Commercial Description:
After months of experimentation, energy and obsession, Deschutes Brewery’s brewers have triumphed once again with their newest creation - Inversion IPA. Inversion’s trio of American hops delivers an over-the-top nose with hints of orange and grapefruit. Inversion is then dry-hopped for seven days resulting in an added hoppy kick. To balance the hop character of Inversion, Deschutes’ brewers used crystal and caraston malts that weave throughout the beer providing soft, complex caramel flavors. Inversion IPA is smooth and delicious. Just like clear days up on the mountain, Inversion IPA will deliver a path to higher ground. Inversion will be available year-round starting in early April on draft and in 6-packs. Inversion IPA is a phenomenal NW-style IPA, beckoning all beer drinkers and enticing IPA lovers to invert their world and find clarity above the routine of the everyday. Alc. By Vol. 6.8% IBUs 75

12oz bottle. Poured amber color with good size white head. Aroma has some caramel, toffee hints, and some grapefruit. This ale has a long bitter hop finish which lingers for awhile. Not bad, but there are better out there.

Bottle. Pours a clear amber color with huge foamy head - nice lacing. Nose is sweet malt and citrus. Palate is a bit bitter upfront but mellows with malt and grapefruit before finishing with a piney bitter aftertaste. Medium mouth feel. Not bad really.

2008 Bottle - Citrus and pine aroma, the hops both smell and taste floral, a nice addition to this strong ale, finishes with a healthy orange/caramel kick. The main drawback for me was a coppery metallic flavor that stuck around, otherwise a decent brew...

Clear amber. Toffee and butterscotch aroma backed by mellow orange hops. Smells of British crystal malt. Toffee and orange flavor, super bitter. Not too bad. More like an amped up English IPA than a NW IPA. Summit hops?

Pours a copper color in the glass with a light head. Smells spicy and tickles the nose. Tastes of hop with malt undertones, and a strange chemical taste at the end. Not my favorite IPA or favorite Deschutes.

12 oz bottle from trade with bockyhorsey. Copper colored pour with just a little carbonation and wispy head. Spicy earthy aroma. The flavor is actually almost a match to the aroma. Earthy spice is prevalent. There is some malt and caramel but the earthy/spicy hop presence is dominating. This thing finishes pretty dry. An ok brew but the hop profile is nothing like what I like to see in my IPAs.

full range bitter aroma, peppery, shiny dark amber with off white head that hangs on a while. numbs the tongue with bitterness, which is a bit harsh in flavor, over bitter, slightly metallic, some grapefruit and pine pitch. sour finish. the least balanced Deschutes beer I’ve had. they’ve never been known for IPA, but this all out alpha with nary a malt trace isn’t the way to go.
