tupalev (2605), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jan 6, 2008 Bottle shared with Hogtown Harry and Blankboy, Harry’s bottle. Last beer of a really nice 14 beer Friday night just hanging out, thanks for having us over Blankboy! Dark orange, medium white head. Nice hop aroma, but lots of malt there too! Huge hop taste! Pronounced because of the wonderful light malt body. Great linger. Huge flavour at this alcohol, another solid IPA. HogTownHarry (3922), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Jan 4, 2008 Bottle (12oz). Shared with blankboy and tupalev, my bottle. Clear amber, average head. Light roast malt backing, and tons of hops- crisp and thorough. The taste is even more bitter, grapefruit pith and floral acidic notes. Light body, solid bitterness and astringency, not too boozy. Great drinkin’ IPA. RCL (1443), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA Jan 4, 2008 Has an interesting peach element to the aroma. Good malt balance. Finish is unique, (not sure if that’s good or not), it’s like a prickly pineyness. Weird. franksnbeans (265), Columbus, Maryland, USA Dec 29, 2007 Pours a dark hazy copper with a huge head that dies slowly and laces all over the place throughout. Smells of citrus, rind, hops and sweet malt. Smells great and a little different from a traditional IPA. Tastes the same as it smells along with a lot of bitter grapefruit. Feels creamy and full in the mouth and is extremely drinkable. Deschutes has blown me away during this visit to Oregon and are churning out some great brews.
Skeets (23), Sacramento, California, USA Dec 22, 2007 12oz bottle. Poured a slightly hazy orange with a thin white head that lingered nicely. Heavy fresh pine and citrus hop aroma. Well balanced malt/hop/alcohol. Those great hops hang on for a nice long finish. Snojerk321 (1914), San Diego, California, USA Dec 17, 2007 Bottle. Not very impressed with this IPA. Beer poured a murky, deep golden color. Head was exreamly BIG, fizzy, and off white in color. Nose of musty hops with some orange peel in the back drop......I think my bottle was a little old. Dorwart (1807), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA Dec 13, 2007 Thin dense head. Tan in color. Sweet caramel malty aroma with a good helping of floral hops and a bit of citrus. Color is a dark orange brown. Strong maltyness up front. Sweet caramel. Then it does a quick 180 and smacks you in the face with some steep bitternes and hops. Lots of flowers and some grapefruit rind. Some chalkyness and a very dry palate. Lingering strong roastyness and bitterness. A pretty good IPA. Thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Bockyhorsey for this one. theisti (1638), Leawood, Kansas, USA Dec 11, 2007 12 oz. bottle from Albertson’s in Burien, WA. Pour is orange, with some slight haziness and a one inch off white head. Aroma of some grapefruit rind and straight citrus. Taste has some initial bitterness (more of the citrus peel) with a very hop focused body. More bittering hops appear in the finish. There is some malt in the body, though the balance tips much more toward the hops. Nice beer.
